A forum for all things Cardiff City

I will probably be shot down for being negative about today, but thats how I feel about our team over all.
Personally I feel we could of lost by a far bigger margin than 1 nil, just my opinion as a fan.
I reckon Spurs showed the difference in class today and thanks to my man of the match David Marshal, we were nearly going to get a draw for all the hard work we put in.But is hard work good enough? yes we played a class Premier League team Spurs, but did we really threaten them other than our goal disallowed?
I feel Craig Bellamy is virtually non existent at the moment and were carrying him.
Peter Whittingham went missing in my opinion, but also did we give him the ball enough?
Playing one up front at home, we could struggle in many more games.
Taylor very poor game.
Kim Bo, I thought he was outstanding and him and David Marshall stood out for me.
Gary Medel had a good game and will only get better.
Fraizer Campbell cant do it on his own, but I feel he let himself down today when he had a clear cut chance.
Over all our team battled and looked like they were out there for a draw.
Teams like Spurs are always likely to score in the 92/93/94/95 minute.
We need to start winning and winning at Fulham will be the one, we dont want to be sucked in to the bottom few as its very hard to get out of it, We know we have the passion and hard work, but I think we still need a class striker.
Would I have accepted 5pts after 5 games, No I wouldnt off or be happy. We should of been looking at at least 7pts.
Seasons just started and I have faith in Malky, he will go for a win at Fulham

Marshall pulled off some cracking saves again today.
They could easily have scored a couple more goals.

I am worried we will let this season go by using defensive tactics I know we have played 2 of the best teams, but at some point I would like to see us have a go, as I feel we have the players to play good attractive football

it's no good relying on the keeper for 90+ mins.
we had no confidence today, we have to realise that we ARE a prem club and start believing in ourselves. We earned our place in the league so let's step up to the fooking plate
Sun Sep 22, 2013 7:53 pm
Have to agree with all said here, we just sat and invited spurs on from the first minute and they were always going to score no matter what minute. We were just kicking the ball back to them for the majority of the game, not even looking for a red shirt. It's early days but it's painful watching us go out and be so negative especially at home, would accept them tactics at white hart lane but we need to try and pick points up at home, point at Fulham and 3 against the toon would set us back on the right track
Sun Sep 22, 2013 7:55 pm
bearing in mind we have played 3 out of the top 6 sides at home...
i think spurs were better than man city..
they looked class in every department and i saw no weak spots in their side at all..
i thought we coudnt settle on the ball and gunnar gave it away far to often in the middle today...

At some point, we are going to have to attack teams. Today was a repeat of the Everton game, except Tottenham were better. The goal was always likely to come, just so disappointing that it came so late. Got doubts about one or two players, like Bellamy and Gunnarson. It's going to be a long season!
Sun Sep 22, 2013 8:36 pm
Agree with all above, Spurs were class, but I think we will play worse than this in some games and come away with 3 points so their is hope.
Sun Sep 22, 2013 8:38 pm
We'd better get real here ! In games against the top clubs we just have to hang in there and hope something goes our way,we may scrape a couple of points here and there but we just ain't going to outplay them.
Today we worked hard and actually created two top notch chances with the disallowed goal and Gunners miss.
5 points out of the games we've played is ahead of many realistic predictions, the pressure to collect points only really kicks in over the next couple of games.
It's early in the season and we're doing OK, let's just be patient and trust in this team.

We have played 3 teams at home that will be up there this season. I believe Man City and Spurs will be challenging for the title. Everton are a good outside bet for it. Our tactics against these teams were spot on. If we held out for another 2 minutes the negativism on here tonight would be a fraction of what it is.
We will soon be going into playing teams not so high up in the odds. Lets see what tactics we play then.

No I don't think Malky will go for the win at Fulham, he will be happy with a point.
Although I like taylor he is not a premiership class in my opinion and we seem to have no width or pace to cause premiership teams any concern. Whenever Frazier won a header there was no city player within 10 yards.
Also although Marshall made some class saves his distribution in comparison with for example joe hart is very poor. this needs to be worked upon.

Absolutely! We're here by right. Just gotta believe.

Well said Annis - I agree with every thing you said.
Gunnarson had a very poor game...and it looked like the ref blamed him for fouling in the box for the disallowed goal.
Bellamy is invisible at the moment. He refuses to take on a defender (he did the same in the last Wales match). But mostly he is in midfield - and we have better players than him as a workhorse in midfield (Cowie or Tommy Smith).
We were over run in midfield - Caulker, Turner and Marshall were the strength in the team.
We created just the one chance - Gunnars miss. Campbell's chance was I think a defensive slip, and the disallowed header was from a corner.
just like against Everton we looked like the away team looking to sneak one on the break.

Annis, I can see your point but I feel Cardiff put up a good fight against a team I tip to be right up there this season, particularly with those around them tripping themselves up. Indeed, I think we could have been at least 2-1 ahead by midway through the 2nd half and although I've not watched the replays yet I couldn't see why Turner's 'goal' was disallowed.
I fully agree that Spurs were a class act and showed what we should aspire to be in terms of movement and (often) composure. Their movement was outstanding and they gave little away without pressure from us, whereas we gave a fair bit away cheaply and too frequently squandered good positions
However, overall the team gave us plenty to be VERY positive about and some good performances throughout the team (with my pick being the outstanding David Marshall) and no-one to criticise for effort today
I left the stadium feeling about as positive as I ever have done after a defeat and (like you) I am looking forward to watching our team build in confidence against other opponents that are certainly no better than us

Yes we could of lost by a bigger margin, but on the other hand we could of won the game, what do fans expect we are new to the premiership. 0-0 at 90 mins against a team that has just spent over 100mil, okay we lost in the end but I for one am proud of the team and the effort so far this season

totally agree......we earned our right to be in the prem. We have the same right to be there as every other prem team.
Let's forget our championship mentality - onwards and upwards

The question is do we have a plan B against the weaker teams ?
Lets make no mistake the players gave their haul and that goal was a gut buster . Malky will need to work his magic over the next few days picking there heads up after this defeat . I will be happy with a point against Fulham and our season will start for me against Newcastle at home.

I agree with that.
Poor.

We were never going to take the game to spurs, if we had I think we would have lost by a bigger margin.
We hang on for dear life for 90mins but to get points against the big teams I think we will need to.
One upfront isnt ideal at home but I think with the games we have had so far its justifiable. We made some good chances against Spurs.
Were we lucky to not conceed more, could say yes or could say no thats the bonus in having a top keeper but lets be honest to get points against these top teams we will need to be lucky.
Mon Sep 23, 2013 1:53 pm
I thought we did okay, the difference between the Man City game and yesterday was all about taking the few chances we get against top opposition. If Frazier had taken the one on one with the keeper and Aron didn’t hit row z with an open goal in front of him we could have won. (Yeah I know if my auntie had balls)
Aron looked a little off the mark but the Spurs midfield were outstanding particularly Moussa Dembele, who I thought was World class.
The ref was diabolical and awarded every fifty fifty decision to the ‘bigger club’
We’ll have worse days than that this season so don’t start a witch hunt after every game,
Oh having said that Craig will pack it in before Christmas because he won’t accept his own performance.
Mon Sep 23, 2013 1:58 pm
Campbell should have scored in the first half simple as that.
Odemwinge had a good effort with a twist and shot in the second half, was well wide and should have done much better.
Gunnersson should have scored near the end.
we got in three really good positions and should, as fans, expect the team to have converted at least one of them.
Not really sure what else people expect from a newly promoted side against one of the best in the league.
We did well, but lost, these games wont decide our fate so lets just move on.
Mon Sep 23, 2013 6:33 pm
I will just leave it at this, were lacking upfront badly in my opinion.
Mon Sep 23, 2013 7:34 pm
Campbell is not the answer, 1st touch is poor.
Looking forward to PO starting though, his twist and lay off top AG (when he blasted over) was exactly what's missing, creativity and a forward who can hold the ball whilst others join the attack (especially needed if playing 1 up front).

I agree, Campbell is not the answer.

Have to agree with you. I feel that we still need a left back, winger and central midfielder of some quality come the January transfer window. Whether that is possible financially or not is another question.
