Malky Mackay's Cardiff City face an all-star Tottenham Hotspur team today looking to emulate the heroics of their last Sunday home fixture when they beat Manchester City

Cardiff City v Tottenham Hotspur, Cardiff City Stadium, 4pm

We've beaten Manchester City now we can beat Tottenham ! That is the rallying call from Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell as he goes up against one of his former teams in the Welsh capital today.

The 26-year-old scored a brace which sent the Bluebirds on their way to that epic 3-2 win over Manuel Pellegrini’s superstars and is now calling for that spirit again as he and his teammates don the under-dogs tag once more.

Campbell spent most of the 2008-09 season at Spurs on loan from Manchester United as a make-weight in the deal which took Dimitar Berbatov in the opposite direction.

Now under boss Andre Villas-Boas, Tottenham maybe without Welshman Gareth Bale following his world record move to Real Madrid, but they are now packed with top-class talent including Brazilian Paulinho, Spanish striker Roberto Soldado and highly-rated Danish youngster Christian Erikson.

But Campbell insists after that Manchester City triumph he and his team-mates fancy themselves against anyone, particularly in front of their own passionate support.

“When you are a newly-promoted team you are a bit worried about playing the big sides,” said Campbell.

“But after what we did against Manchester City you start to think you do belong in the league and that maybe you can do it against some of the bigger teams.

“It’s about belief; you feel that you did it against them so maybe you can do it against Tottenham.

“But we’re not getting carried away with ourselves. Manchester City were the massive favourites and Tottenham will be favourites. We’re the under-dogs, but if we can believe in ourselves we’ll be OK.

“We are going to try to make our home a bit of a fortress this season. we want teams to come and feel a bit scared.

“We want to carry on the momentum from the City game. We’ve put in some decent performances at home and hopefully we can do that against Tottenham too.”

Campbell admits that during his time at White Hart lane his impact was minimal.

The striker made 22 appearances for Spurs in Europe and on the domestic front, scoring three goals but mainly had to content himself with coming off the bench.

He admits he learned a lot as a young player in north London, but said time had now moved on and his focus was on finding the net for his current club.

“It was a learning curve for me at the time at Spurs. I was only young,” said Campbell.

“I didn’t get to play much football down there. I played in the Europa League and things like that so it was a great experience for me. It was a massive club so I learned a lot.

“It’s more or less a completely different team from when I was there. Maybe there will be couple of old friends there, but it will be business as usual from me. I’ll be going out to do as well as I can for my team.

“Spurs have made a good start to the season. They’ve brought in a few new faces. They were a good team last season and they are going to be a good team again this season.

“There’s been a lot of new players in, hopefully it will take them a while to gel and we can capitalise on that.

“It’s going to be another tough game for us, but hopefully we can do well at home with our fans behind us.”

Manager Malky Mackay has called upon Campbell to operate up-front on his own so far this season with the likes of Kim Bo-Kyung, Crag Bellamy and Peter Whittingham all charged with getting forward as quickly as possible in support of their striker.

It is a role Campbell has done before and one he is now relishing with Cardiff even if it is rather demanding.

Campbell commented: “It’s not too bad. We’ve got attack-minded players like Kim and Peter Whittingham so goals are going to come from everywhere.

“It’s physically demanding up there on your own, but the Premier League is physically demanding. I do a lot of running, but I’m willing to do that as long as we get the result at the end of it.”

Campbell has seen his progress hampered by injury in the past with a cruciate ligament injury holding him back at Sunderland.

He is now keeping his fingers crossed that his time at Cardiff heralds a bright future for himself in the top-flight.

But although he is content with his start to the campaign, he admits there is still a long way to go.

“I feel good and I feel like I’m playing some decent football,” added Campbell. “It’s still early in the season, but if in six months I’m still playing OK then I’ll think I’m there or thereabouts.

“I just got to keep working hard.

“I hope to push on. I came here to play football and hopefully get back to my best football.

“The manager here believes in me and hopefully the rest of my teammates believe in me too.

“It’s always good to get a couple of goals early on, but I want to score more. I want to keep doing well. We’ve made a good start as a team, but we have to continue that. There’s bo point in starting well and then dropping off.

“You’ve got to keep your standards high and keep doing it.”

The good news for the Bluebirds today is that both goalkeeper David Marshall and team captain Craig Bellamy are fit and available again after missing last weekend’s draw with Hull with injury.

Big money signing Andreas Cornelius is still ‘a few weeks away’ from fitness with his ankle injury.

The 20-year-old striker has been left frustrated since his £8.5m move from FC Copenhagen in the summer.
