Just watched a debate/discussion on BBC "Sunday morning live" about weather or not the spurs fans have the right to chant "YID ARMY" at there matches? Most on the panel and viewers thought it was racist and derogatory and should be stopped even though it is spurs fans themselves who chant it.

The bluebirds been singing "sheepshaggers , la, la, la" for years - its all part of the banter at a match, surely?

Tractor boys, wurzles, jack's, etc, etc most of us got our own identity and its just a bit of banter.

Of course you would not go up to some stranger on the street and call him or her names without knowing them. but is it racist??
I doubt it very much.

Maybe we can make an extra effort this afternoon (and on TV) in solidarity with spurs fans and loudly sing "sheepshaggers, la, la, la. sheepshaggers la,la,la" - bloooobirds

Tonight the British Prime Minister David Cameron defended the right for Spurs supporters to chant " Yids " or " Yid army " at football matches, even after the English FA said any fan chanted it would face criminal charges.

" There's a difference between Spurs fans self-describing themselves as " Yids " and someone calling someone a " Yid " as an insult . "
" You have to be motivated by hate, hate speech should be prosecuted-but only when it's motivated by hate "

Tottenham fans have had anti-Semitic abuse for decades. If they want to reclaim the word, then good for them. Be interesting to see what they chant today!

It's political correctness gone completely wrong. Historically the word 'yid' is a complimentary term and the correct and polite term for a jew to great another jew whose name he does not know is 'reb yid' meaning 'sir'. Cameron was right, and these black lawyers need to take a look at themselves as it seems they will do anything to get some sort of publicity, even when it concerns a topic they obviously know very little about.

mate it,s a load of charlie ollox by a set of people who have would be non entaties in life if they couldnt get all self rightous and feel someone elses pain-imagined or real.to the black lawyers id ask them what do they think of jermaine defoe when he milks it up when the crowd sing jermaine defoe -he,s a yiddo.?jd loves it and puts the .if the black lawyers insist on using demarkation lines with people in the uk on the lines of race /colour etc(isn,t that racist )then perhaps they could concentrate on their own coloured people.i doubt any jew would seriously want these no marks supporting them.

Common sense and why he'll get my vote again. You just know Miliband would have toed the party line and done what the PC brigade would have wanted him to do in this situation. Thats all Labour do. They dont use common sense but make decisions to appease the there and now. Eventually they get caught out and others are voted in before everyone forgets and Labour are voted back in and the cycle continues.

Also they sang we're Tottenham Hotspur we'll sing what we want.

What's the difference between a Jewish spurs fan chanting Yid Army to a black man referring to himself or another black man as "The N word".
Both are acceptable apparently.
But if a white man uses the N word or a non Jewish person calls out Yid it becomes racist.

No pun intended but it's not that black and white surely?
