Will Peter Whittingham shine against Spurs on Sunday?

As most know I am a big critic of Whitts, not because he isn't talented or class because he is in my opinion  , But because I believe Whitts is not consistent and goes missing in the big games, thats my opinion and I expect to get shot down for saying it, but thats my opinion as a fan and thats why I believe he was still playing in the Championship for 7 consecutive seasons.

This season I really hope he proves all his critics wrong including def myself.
Whitts is on the big stage week in week out,Whitts is now surrounded with class players, he can now make us eat humble pie. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I believe if Malky keeps more or less the same 11 with Whitty and Taylor on the same flank, Whitty will come out of his shell and play the game we know he's capable of - more consistently. For me, he's formed a tidy link with Taylor over the past few weeks - the way they help each other out defensively and offensively.

Wez, I honestly believe if Whitts is on fire, we will at least get a draw,as Whitts can be the difference, but we need him to be consistent :ayatollah:

The signing of Medel was mad for us. Not just because of Medel's quality but also because it means Whitts can push forward now.

Last season he was playing more defensive. But now he can get in the positions he was in a few years ago. He wouldn't have been there to score the goal he scored at Hull if it was last season.

Because of that, I think Whitts will have a great season for us. A player who could score 10-15 goals in the Premier League, when you factor in penalties and set pieces, which would be crucial if we're to stay up.

Matt and Ned, I believe the signing of Medel can only help Whitts and also the class of players around him should also help him.

Totally agree, whitts av gone missing in games we expect/need him to shine for seasons.
Now I think that's all changed. Malky has stuck a much needed rocket up his arse, he no longer believes he's the 1st player on the team sheet.
At last he has players around him on the same wavelength, and players who stick their foot in, allowing him time to work his magic!!
So, although annis, I agree with all u say. I think this is Whitts time to shine....As we all know, He Does Wot He Wants, He Does Wot He Waaaants, Peter Whittingham, He Does Wot He Wants!!!! Ha :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I think you might be right, Malky has sorted him out and surrounded him with quality, now is the time for Whitts to shine :ayatollah:

You say about how he's been playing in the Championship for so long yet he had an offer from a strong Premier League club last season but chose to stay on with Cardiff. He could be playing there, but chose not to, whether it be for money, commitment, or a talking to from Malky.

I agree though, he is inconsistent but so far he has 1 goal and 1 assist.

For example I don't rate Cowie and really don't think he's good enough in terms of quality but he leads our assists by 2.

Both have scored/assisted against one of the biggest clubs in the league and our closest competitors. That's the consistency that needs to continue throughout the season for us to stay up.

The problem is simply this mate. You are one eyed. You have an opinion and that's fair enough. As I have mine But - it seems to me you expect because of his talent Witts has to play brilliantly every week. Very few players does this. And what's more he is playing in yet another different system and runs his balls off for the team. You Annis have the respect of many and I applaud your devoted support for the Bloooobirds. But give Witts a break will you. The players has stood by the City over the years when others have come and gone. He is a gem. Just for once get off his back. Not many agree with your opinion on this one anymore mate - unless of course when he only has a mediocre game like most players. Then he is classed as one who cannot cut it in the Premiership!!!! Bollocks!!!! :ayatollah:

Its about opinions and thats whats good about being supporters of a football club. As to a Premier Club wanting him, I think you will find there was no serious offer on the table, on his day I rate Whitts very highly.

As I said earlier its all about difference of opinions and thats whats great about football. No I dont expect him to shine ever week, but I believe in the past he has gone missing for long periods of past seasons. I dont get on Whitts back personally, a matter of fact I cheer and sing his name on many occasions. I just feel he could be much more consistent over a season. I will say it again on his day Whits is pure class

I think whitts has always had the potential to be a premiership player but I agree that he has gone missing depending where he has played positionally in certain games.

I used to work with an Aston Villa supporter who was disappointed when he left them, as he felt Whitts had a lot of potential, to our benefit this has materialised.

Although now I think he is revelling in what is his type of football, more time on the ball and better players around him, hopefully we'll keep seeing the best of him. :ayatollah:

But you DO get on his back as indicated by the post that YOU started. If you had not we would not be continuing the debate. Also previous posts from you have indicated this. I have no doubt that you support him at the match but you ARE critical of him. The evidence is there. Think It through. Think you have dug yourself a big hole here Annis. :ayatollah:

Nobbie
I believe the same, Whitts has plenty of potential and now hopefully in his second time around in the Premier League, he can shine

Not dug myself in a hole at all, I stand by that I dont believe Whitts has been consistent in the past and hopefully he will be this season. :ayatollah:

I think to beat spurs we need 2 things

Medel needs to keep Eriksen quiet, and bully him for 90 mins

And Whitts needs to produce for us going forward. Frazier has the quality to score goals for us this season, and if PW can give him the service he needs.... A man city repeat?

I would happily settle for a draw though. Remember they had 3 first team players injured in the Europa league on Thursday, another good omen for us

Anyone who thinks Whittingham is consistent is mental. Sometimes he's awesome, sometimes he might as well not be there.

To beat Spurs tomorrow we need 11 players to shine not just Whitts.
Im a big fan of Whitts and can see that sometimes he doesn't live up to his reputation but hey he can turn a game in a minute with his brilliance :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
To me unless he is having a stinker keep him in the team :o
For me this season he is more relyable than Kimbo :o .

If it is the same team as played against Hull then I believe that he can make a good impact. He will be vital tomorrow IMO with his set piece deliveries, passing and hopefully a few shots.

The only reason on why Whittingham hasn't played in the Premier League since Villa is because Dave Jones and MM have refused to sell him and Whitts also publically admitted that he likes living here. He has been inconsistent a lot but when he plays well he is a different class!
