What's the deal?
My contract is up on Nov 4th...
I am eligible for an upgrade from October....
Popped into the store today they said I could upgrade today,if I paid off the remainder of my existing deal and payed £99 for new handset.
Is that normal?
This is my first contract so I've never upgraded..

The £99 is for the phone. What phone are you upgrading to?
If you want to upgrade early then you normally pay up the remainder of your contract.

5s.
If I was a new contract customer it would cost me £99 upfront plus whatever a month...
Since I am an existing customer I am still being charged £99? where is the benifit of remaining with the network?

Yes but you are upgrading to a phone that hasn't even been released. You could try and negotiate the monthly payments down but I doubt they'll budge on the handset price.

What planet you on? The phone is on sale bud...
Was released this morning...
What I am asking if it's normal that you pay an upfront fee when upgrading your contact..

As a rule, the higher the monthly payments and the longer the contract you take out, the less you have to pay for your new handset.
I've always paid something in the region of £50-100 for an upgraded handset. So, for me, it's normal.

Thought it was released next week.
But to answer your question yes it is normal to pay that amount for a newly released iPhone.

Yes , unless you cancel the contract & go with someone else that's what you'll pay.
