To be honest, I think Jonjo Shelvey has overtaken Cowie after his performance last Monday!
Joking aside, Cowie's cross for Whittingham was inch perfect. Cowie is a quality footballer who may not have the pace or dribbling ability to terrorise a full back, but his engine, work rate and quality on the ball makes him a Premiership quality player and he's showing it this season.
I think Cowie was harshly dropped last season when he was starting to show how good he is in his proper position - centre midfield. I remember Cowie scoring away to someone, I think it was Sheffield Wednesday and he played well, but the next game or 2 he was dropped back down to the bench. I'm glad Cowie is at least being given a chance this season to show what he can really do and so far, he is showing he is more than capable in the Premiership. Aside from his cross for Whittingham, Cowie was one of our best performers last Saturday.
Bellamy will probably come back in on the right Sunday so Cowie will make way, but what a good squad player to have when needed.
