HAVE WE STILL GOT A FIRM?

Fri Sep 20, 2013 11:35 am

Been to all the away games so far and Season Ticket holder home, I've personally noticed a huge drop of in mates, acquaintances and 'faces' about (probably most noticeable since Chelsea away and Red Tan).

Obviously we are not the team (off pitch) that we were and are family club of the year etc. Its recognised that off field antics rise when on field goes tits up. Like many older fans, being in or around a scrap or in stands and pubs with the protagonists of a scrap were part of the fabric in years gone by.
I've talked to few fans this season and we half expect a bushwack this season by teams who haven't played us in this capacity before and think of our past reputation.

I have not seen a firm together in last 3 years and was wondering -
DO WE STILL HAVE A FIRM
?????????????? :ayatollah:

Talking to a few of our main lads quite recently. They said we still have a firm and told me the 3 away games their mobbing up for this season.

How do you define a firm, It wasn't a firm in Chelsea it was just thousands of Cardiff fans, and among them as around here and every other town or City area you will get some who are always up for a scrap.

To me a firm would insinuate an arranged get together with a rival firm and planning something, may still happen but the Ob will be all over it like a rash.

I think most people have worked out that if you want a good scrap, go to the nearest town center on a Friday or Saturday, and give it big time, you may get locked up for the night, you may have a fine, doubt you'd get sent to jail, do that same at football and your looking at twelve months minimum and a six year ban.

I think a lot of people take the approach of, "we don't need to arrange a scrap, but if one happens when we are there, then so be it" as with Chelsea i may add. :old:

We haven't had a firm in years Eddie. You can't even take a private coach away now without the say-so of the police. The days when 40 of you could sneak into the back road of some dodgy town of an awaiting northern shithole are long gone. The only firms I see now are online and are barely 17 years old a'man'

Chelsea, as Gwyn said ended up more sporadic but that was the last time we had real pockets of proper lads allover the area. I arrived at the Fulham broadway around 2.40 with around 80-100 old heads who wouldn't budge. As Chelsea found out that day to their cost. Not one of that lot were from Cardiff. It was all valleys(mainly Treorchy :-), but that was the thing about us, we had so many. A good mate of mine, one of Liverpools main faces, if not the main, phoned me the night of the carling cup final. He wasnt amused that 150 Cardiff had caught a few scousers on Wembley way and gave them a slap and I was out of order! I explained that I didn't have a f*cking clue who it was and to be honest it could have been from a large number of different"firms". He soon got the picture

It's a mugs game now though. Look at those Bristol City shitheads getting sent down for smashing an empty pub up!!
When my son was born was the day I knocked it on the head. The police battered Cardiff into submission a long time ago. The first time we played West Ham in the championship was one of the last mad ones, but that was to do with the met losing control after the game. These things go in a cycle though and no doubt it'll come back round again one day

The "trouble" on Wembley Way started because the scousers (who said or did nothing while at the tube station or walking along Wembley Way) got very mouthy and started lobbing cans/bottles etc as soon as the road split into 2, up the ramps. As they had not been there before they did not realise the ramps joined up at the top, much to their surprise. The trouble I saw there involved about 4/5 Cardiff fans (not 150) as the scousers would like to make out. Could you imagine 150 lads going unnoticed by the police?

Didn't some old city fan get attacked along there by a gang of scousers? Youtube have the evidence I think.

Very true Mr Rivers , I think the last time I saw Cardiff mobbed up was at the Constitition Bell before the playoffs I think ,other than that it's way too risky. Remember Exeter away when a few Plymouth lads took us to the vines boozer and showed us where Exeter were drinking .No OB anywhere to be see, you could never do that now , we couldn't anyway. In the lower leagues it's still going on.

A very well put together post Mr Rivers! totally agree.
At Chelsea we 'Treorchy' had about 20/30 that day (with one or two from Caerphilly, Ystrad Mynach and Ebbw Vale). some of us went back to the Bush after the event and went to a pub surrounded by o/b and full lads -about 150 led by our Scandinavian docks boy - who had no idea what had kicked off.
have no interest in it now, its not the same anyway, smashing things to bits ffs - too much to lose - too young for me and too many eyes around!!!!

Remember it well D. Those were quality days and if you really wanted it you had to go the extra distance ;)

I got nicked there twice over the years after that. They never did forgive us for taking their pub :laughing6:

My memory is shot to shit now.

But I remember back in the late 90s before Sam, it used to kick off all the time.

If you stood in the grange end you were in the firing line.

Then the echo ran that campaign with loads of boys pictures plastered over the front to try and identify and prosecute them. My mate was one of them. Poor sod ended up inside for over a year I think. We were working at direct holidays some dodgy call centre if you are still around lol.

Not worth it now. Plus I'm an old wreck. Most use I would have is holding people pints while they threw something.

it's the threat of a custodial sentance that stopped most of us........and our age (even though mentally I'm still 18). Operation javelin after Stoke started the rot I reckon

That chelsea game was a load of shit coz I got sent to prison for just being there
And got a 6 year banning order for doing f**k all.

the original soul crew will never be matched again by our lot in our lifetime. IMO ,
in fighting terms they were a superclub in the uk.

however I wont be surprised if something goes down at stoke,
alot will know better than to take that trip with the intention of fighting
we have history and a clash that many hold up there still to this day with a bitter vibe surrounding it.
alot of bans dished out that day.

I cant remember a time in my my life i've ever seen it go off like it did coming off those coaches up there.

also everton away we could get targeted, liverpool and possibly mancs up there ends

Re: HAVE WE STILL GOT A FIRM?

We Cardiff, never had a firm as such. Lots of groups of chaps from various areas of the valley's, Cardiff and beyond. Over the years I had more bother with the various groups of own supporters than I ever had from the oppo!

Anyone involved these days is a fool, if you want to fight go to a night club, bar, beat the crap out of someone the worst you'll get is a fine. Do the same, or stand and watch during a football match and you'll be looking at 12 to 18 months in the big house. I got grassed up for the Chelsea incidents by one of own, luckily I was in Bulgaria at the time so nowhere near the place; my house in London is 4 to 5 km from Stamford Bridge, most of my mates are old school Chelsea. I saw the videos on you tube and knew more Chelsea guys than Cardiff!!

So yep you younger guys, it is not worth it, you will be targeted by the filth, if they don't get you today they will get you tomorrow. I'm nearly 51 and the constant looking over my shoulder for past misdemeanors spoils football for me, I was never "one of the boys" just a "shirter" type fan but like most Cardiff, if we got attacked we would fight back big time!

Most of the lads are either banned, too well known to step out of line or just think it's not worth it anymore, the game is up. Saying that there's one away fixture in November that should get a big showing

No, don't do it's not worth it. Man U got their arses served on a plate in 1974. Those days are long gone, please don't ambush them, please don't have it off, please please let no one from AAMB get nicked. The wankers on CCMB can though, wouldn't piss on those twats if they by some quirk of fate caught fire.

Who do I owe few bob for taking out Splot David now I remember?

Looks like we need one! Forums gone soft after that "well done Swansea" thread

Someone mentioned earlier that we never really had a "firm"

Then what was the Soul Crew?

I'm not sniping, just curious

Its football's culture, it's been part of it for a long time, Cardiff's most loyal fans have been involved one way or another, and that's a fact.

whilst i agree with most of that tony there were times when certain individuals got together to ensure we hard a large gathering of lads for a particular occassion.
the train mob and the home gathering for the millwall games in 99 and also the auto windscreen game at the new den that same season were well organised and in fact the home game was organised at the cwmbran friendly pre season..
i also believe the forming of the rams ensured a large group of lads would just come naturally because they all travelled and mostly met in the same watering holes.

It might look dead in front of the cameras but it is far from that away from the spot light. Just look at your lower leagues.
