Former Cardiff midfielder Stephen McPhail has signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer.

McPhail has been training with Wednesday in recent weeks.

I am hearing Dave Jones has offered a 6 months contract for now.

I heard its all but done, Good luck to Mcphail, a good servant to Cardiff City.

Good luck to McPhail, I know many City fans didn't like his style of play but I think he was a calming influence on the team during his time.

Hope it works out for him.

If he can stay fit then they have a quality player.

I appreciated him Carl, kept the ball even if it meant passing sidewards or running around in a circle.......loads I've sat by over the seasons he played wanted him to lump it forward in a hopeful manner.
Excellent pro for us, particularly under the circumstances, not sure he's got too much to offer now even for Wednesday, but I always appreciated Macca
& saw him score a bloody corker too, Hull home maybe?

Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the short-term signing of former Cardiff midfielder Stephen McPhail on Thursday. The Irishman has recently been training with the Owls squad and has signed an initial deal that will see him stay at Hillsborough until the middle of January.
McPhail, who will turn 34 during his stint at S6, has suffered with injuries in recent seasons and as a result he fell down the pecking order and found his opportunities with Cardiff restricted. Last season he featured just twice in cup competitions for the Welsh side.
The former Republic of Ireland international spent 7 years at his first professional club, Leeds United and has also played for local rivals Barnsley in the past.
He is not a regular midfield goal scorer but is regarded as a skilled passer of the ball and if he can find some of his old form and fitness his ability and experience could boost an Owls midfield that is in need of some extra creativity and calmness in possession.

The guy is an absolute legend. The issues he has had to endure, and still a humble salt of the earth type. If my boy grows up to be a man like Macca, then I would be soooo proud. Credit to himself, his wife, his kids and his parents. No billy big balls, a quality player on his day, and credit to Cardiff, I think we looked after him. Top pro in my eyes. Good luck Stevo

Excellent Valley lad. Couldn't pay him a better complement than that mate.

I will add that one thing, what I noticed most about Steve was when he wasn't playing.

A quality player at his best. Could still do well. Dictated play and rarely misplaced a pass.

McPhail is a quality player good good technical ability.

Not to everyones taste but I thought he was a tremendous player for us.

I always thought he offered us a bit of drive from the centre midfield - tidy enough player. Good luck to him.

Very lucky that he managed to get interest from a Championship club.
