Queues have formed outside Apple stores by fans desperate to get their hands on the iPhone 5S, which does not go on sale until Friday.

First in line at the technology giant’s flagship Regent Street store was Gad Harari, who said he was prepared to sell his spot for £1,000.

The 17-year-old student from Hendon was preparing to spend his second night in a makeshift tent as part for a four-day wait for the new smartphone, which features a fingerprint scanner.

Mr Harari took his place outside the central London outlet with his friend Noah Green, also 17.

‘We are always among the first to get a new iPhone,’ he said.

‘I came down on Monday night to be the first – this time we really wanted to be first.’

‘I would probably sell my place in the queue for about £1,000. There are crazy people who are willing to do that.’

Both students said they plan to buy the 5S, which was unveiled for the first time last week along with Apple’s first mid-range phone the 5C.

The 5S device, said to be twice as fast as its predecessor, sets itself apart from its competitors with its Touch ID feature that allows users to unlock their phone with the touch of a finger – but has been criticised by some.

Mr Green, from Stanmore in north-west London, was due to be at college this week, but said: ‘I don’t think they’ll mind because (joining the queue) is an ingenious idea.

‘I’m really excited. It’s going to be incredible, this launch. It’s going to be the biggest yet.’

The student, who runs his own web business, has queued for Apple gadgets for the past four years.

‘I collect Apple products,” he added. “I pretty much have everything that Apple makes.’

The 5S, which comes in gold, silver or ‘space’ grey, will be available through EE, O2, Three, Carphone Warehouse and Phones4u priced at £549 (16GB), £629 (32GB) and £709 (64GB).

The cheaper 5C has been available for pre-order and comes in a range of colours, priced at £469 (16GB) and £549 (32GB).

Sad as f**k anyone who sits in a que for days for something that they could buy from most places a week later

I would be embarresed to be in that que or even own an I Phone 5s. The PS4 on the other hand now thats different. I would have a tent a fortnight early and an armed guard and they could stick their £1000 up their arse!!!

Stupid, dunno, but when they sell their pitch to some rich bloke for a grand, "because my little Johnny simply has to have one", they will be labelled as genius!

Probably most productive week they will have all year.

Clever, getting money for the interviews from tabloids etc.
