Tonight the British Prime Minister David Cameron defended the right for Spurs supporters to chant " Yids " or " Yid army " at football matches, even after the English FA said any fan chanted it would face criminal charges.


David Cameron told the Jewish Chronicle

" There's a difference between Spurs fans self-describing themselves as " Yids " and someone calling someone a " Yid " as an insult . "
" You have to be motivated by hate, hate speech should be prosecuted-but only when it's motivated by hate "

Whilst I applaud the decision and common sense prevailing if hate filled discrimination is to be punished why doesnt he do something about Muslim clerics eh encouraging hate and racism on our streets?

It's how it's used that's the issue. If I call a Jew a yid out of hatred for the Jews, it's different to a Jew calling himself a Yid as a defence mechanism.

Word's aren't that bad IMO though, it's a lot worse to actualy discriminate against someone (i.e. not give them a job) because of the colour of their skin, their religion, their sexual orientation etc. than to call them a name.

For once I 100% agree with chuckles! Black lawyers only is not only racist but surely against the equality act 2010 an also against equal opportunities for all people- like chuckles says there would be outrage if there was society for white lawyers!

I just don't get the rules no more. So some people can say words that others can't depending on which group you belong to?

The "N word" winds me up the most. Just to clarify it was a word used to call slaves back in the day over in the USA. It wasn't a nice word and you can understand why slaves back then didn't like being a "N word". I can also understand why the children of a slave would not like to be called that word. However I cannot understand why people who had nothing to do with the slave trade can pretend to be offended by that word any more than everyone else. What I'm getting at is you've got Asians and black people from countries that wasn't involved in slavery calling each other by that word, and owning it, yet at the same time getting offended when non black people use that word. These people have no more right to use that word than white people do. They weren't involved in slavery, most of the time they are first or second generation Brits so they have no more connection with the slave trade as any other person.
