Cardiff City take motorway journey to Hull and back after aeroplane is grounded
Monday 16th Sept 2013
When sitcom character Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter travelled up the M1 to Huill in the back of his friend Denzil's lorry, he thought he'd endured the worst journey ever. Now after an airline mix-up, Cardiff City's Premier League stars have revealed they suffered a similar trip north on Friday.
Cardiff City are still flying high in the Premier League... despite being grounded ahead of their weekend trip to Hull.
Malky Mackay’s Bluebirds overcame a string of pre-match problems, including the loss of Craig Bellamy and David Marshall, to make it three games unbeaten with a 1-1 draw.
Mackay revealed his players were left stranded at Cardiff Airport ahead of their flight north because their scheduled aircraft wasn’t available.
Striker Fraizer Campbell Tweeted that he was disappointed to spend his birthday inside the terminal as they waited for news of the flight.
Thanks for all the birthday tweets ppl! Can't believe I've spent most of it in Cardiff airport waiting for our delayed plane! #greatbday

The team were then told an alternative flight would be available the following morning... the day of the match itself.
But Mackay ordered his players back onto the team coach just after 5pm and the squad, in Only Fools and Horses style, hurriedly made the 300 mile (five-and-a-half hour) journey north by road, up the M5, M1 and M62 - over Hull's famous Humber Bridge.

I came back over the Humber bridge just to wary one of the most boring road trips on our calendar, I'm sure when they mention Heaven and hell in the bible, they meant Heaven and Hull, please don't draw them in the FA Cup because that would be a real test of my loyalty.
