MALKY : " CONNOLLY AND BRAYFORD GOT PARTS TO PLAY "
Malky Mackay insists Matthew Connolly and John Brayford have major roles to play for Cardiff City this season even though they were left out of the 18-man matchday squad at Hull.
French defender Kevin Theophile-Catherine, 23, was given his debut at the KC Stadium, while Connolly and Brayford watched from the stands.
The quality of Theophile-Catherine’s performance at right-back suggests he will be difficult to displace, but Mackay said: “Matthew and John are absolutely part of what is going on here.
“I need good players and both of them fit the bill. For this club to compete over the season I am going to need the players in our 25-man squad.”
Danish centre-forward Andreas Cornelius, Mackay’s £8m signing from FC Copenhagen, is still out injured and has played only a couple of minutes Premier League football after going on as a late substitute against Manchester City.
“Andreas is back running again, working alone with the physios right,” said Mackay. “It will be another couple of weeks before we can think about him playing matches.
“He has a lot of catch-up work before he plays.”
Cornelius, 20, turned an ankle during pre-season training and suffered a recurrence when he was tackled during Cardiff’s 2-0 Capital One Cup win at Accrington Stanley.
Mackay revealed goalkeeper David Marshall, on the mend from a hip flexor injury, will be back in training early this week and will be available for next Sunday’s home clash with Spurs.
Craig Bellamy missed out with minor knee injury sustained while playing for Wales against Serbia and Mackay said: “He took a knock to a knee, while playing two full matches was key for his country was not ideal for us.
“We thought we had to be careful with Craig with a view towards our next match.”

Seems like Malky didn't think Catherine would e an option, got Brayford as back up then it came up. Either he or Connolly is a waste I feel.
Poor Kev, woks his bollocks off to get us to the Prem. won't even make the bench.

Connolly came 52nd in the Premier League EA Sports Performance Index, so there is no chance of him not featuring.

Bellamy putting country before club, which I would welcome if he played for anyone else
Does seem a waste of time though with the shite manager Wales have at the moment and given he'll be retired in a few weeks anyway.
