" PERSISTENT STANDING IN THE NINIAN STAND "

" Persistent standing in the Ninian Stand is one of the topics on the agenda for tomorrow's travel group meeting. "

As well as previous and upcoming away trips we also discuss stadium issues and the continued standing in the Ninian Stand has been discussed on several occasions and we have been made aware that some fans have moved from the Ninian to the Canton Stand as they have had their season ticket cards turned off so they cannot enter the stadium until they have been spoken too about their persistent standing.

At previous meetings letters of complaints from supporters who sit in the Ninian Stand have been read out and the club have insisted they will get tough with those who choose to stand.

I have started this thread to get some feedback from supporters especially those who sit/stand in the Ninian Stand.

If there are replies that can be used then I will present them at the meeting.

That's good news that the club are clamping down on it. :ayatollah:

I've been near the back of 112 since we moved to the CCS. It's never been an issue until this season, where one person who is new to our area this year stands up, on his own, on a regular basis, blocking the view of half a dozen people around him. Then other people have to stand to see around him. By the end of the Everton game, he was ignoring requests from those around him to sit down, even though we have all sat peacefully together for the last 4 years.

I hope he is one of those singled out, as we made sure of his seat number and reported it to a steward after the game, who wrote the seat number down. :malky:

Carl,

My problem with those who stand and the stewards asking fans to sit is the fact that they ask those in the middle to sit first.

People like myself will not sit until the people in front of us sit, otherwise we cannot see anything.. The stewards then get irate as they can't fathom why we refuse to sit.

If they are going to enforce sitting, they need to start at the bottom and work their way up.. That way nobody has any excuse for refusing to sit.

Just my thoughts.

Constructive and reasonable and pretty obvious I will pass this on Alex.

Thanks,

Whilst I obviously worry about my ticket being "blocked" for standing, at the same time, I refuse to sit if others stand in front of me as we can't see anything!

There is one guy who will stand alone when everyone else is sitting & point blank refuses to sit, I've no sympathy for him if he gets blocked.. If you are insistent on standing, move to the Canton I say.

If someone was standing in front of me,i would tell him or her that it would be personally beneficial for them to sit down...politely of course

I stand in the ninian row DD block 117

The club make me laugh. How can you praise the fans for the atmosphere, then get the manager to encourage the same atmosphere to help the players....but then tell ppl to sit down???

Im sure it will be rocking with ppl sat on their ass.

Club beed to make up their mind. Good atmosphere with crowd behind the players or everyone (except canton) sat down with uninspiring crowd.

We beed as much as possible because when canton are in full voice, from my seat i cant hear them

Re: PERSISTENT STANDING IN THE NINIAN STAND

I've noticed that the atmosphere really clicks when the ninian are singing and bouncing.

I say keep standing as much as you can!!! If you want to sit down get over to the grandstand or family end.

The fans will be the extra thing we need to stay up!!! Keep standing and keep singing

I agree. I'm actually on the front row myself in the ninian. Always had the seat since we moved over the road. We respect the fact that there are a variety of people behind us that probably have mixed feelings about standing so we stay seated unless of course it's the start / finish, a goal is celebrated, foul play, poor ref decision, substitution. The only way to control this is to have sections for standing like the canton. We have such a range of fans, all ages, shapes, sizes. The elderly for instance may need to sit for 90 mins and can see how some selfish person could pretty much ruin their day.

I sit in block 115 and for a few years now we've had good friends around us who try to sit properly and watch the game. I've actually moved 3 times in the past due to people standing in front of me. Nobody objects to the jumping up when city have s shot or one of the players is running at a defender in the box but whats increasing is people standing when the ball is just crossing the half way line. My wife goes to ever game and beinv a little on the short side can't see much even when she has to stand. There's also another lady behind us and a little to one side who iz even smaller. I feel really sorry for her as she has now even given up trying to stand and see over thd persistent standers in front of us. It does often start about 6 rows in front of us where some supporters spend most of the game not watching their team but more often gesturing at the opposition fans. I'm sure these are the same jugheads who claim that those who sit are not genuine supporters. We have a section of the ground where fans standing is accepted so I can't work out why they don't all just move behind the goal. I feel they are genuinely spoiling the day for some spectators who sit because that's what they've paid to do. They call it creating atmosphere, I call it selfish and unthoughtful!
The stewards as far as I can see tend to have problems policing it. One the rare ocassion they try to get fans to sit, they are either ignored or the offenders are doing the same again two minutes later. I've seen thd technology available in the control centre. Word would soon get round if they used the cameras and nailed one of two of the persistent offenders byremoving their tickets for a match or two. Jusg watch 115 - 117 and they'll easily spot the worst of the offenders.

Nothing wrong with standing up. If you want to sit down, watch it at home. It's football for Gods sake

Carl, can u ask them why they were telling us to sit down in the canton during the everton game? Im 5 rows from the front and most started sitting... its an absolute joke. The club need to get their act together!!

There's plenty wrong with standing up. What about the elderly chap who sits near me that has to stand all game because the chap in front of him refuses to sit down?

Like it or not, the rules are simple. If you want to stand, go to the Canton.

I'm not arsed either way, but those who claim to be hard done by when asked to sit in the Ninian and refusing to do so aren't helping themselves.

The canton alone cannot generate the atmosphere 'the club' crave

What I missed out from my post, obviously the elderly, disabled, pregnant etc will want to sit, that's fair enough.

But so many in the Canton on the sides sit down, stopping people in the Ninian getting STs in the Canton. I think the club should just come out and say aisles 116 and 117 to be like the Canton.

That's fine, but to say that people who want to sit should go home is ridiculous...

Use your heads moaners.
You can't send every one to the Canton stand it can't house every one it's not that big.
Simple way around would be to contact all people in Ninian stand and ask who wants to stand and who don't. Them move all standing people into same sections and all people who want to sit in same sections.

I sit in 116 but during the Man City game stood for the whole game along with the rest of 116 and the atmosphere was fantastic and the stewards did not intervene at all! Exactly the same happened when we played Leicester in the PO semi final and Palace in the Carling cup plus many other 'big' games.

It seems there are times when the Club wants a good atmosphere and so are prepared to allow standing there needs to be some consistency I personally believe blocks 116 and 117 should have the same standing arrangement as the Canton :old:

I am very sympathetic to those people who appear to lose their voice when they sit down. It must be a terrible and I never have experienced it myself and hope I never will.

Strangely I have noticed that this problem is reported to happen in football stadia rather than anywhere else.

I have rarely noticed this problem from anyone driving after I have cut them up on the road!

Re: " PERSISTENT STANDING IN THE NINIAN STAND "

The stewards have to start at the front of the stand and work back when attempting to get fans to sit, they start half way back.
There are a few who regularly stand, but are ignored by stewards, this has a domino effect as people behind will have to stand etc.Saying this, there is no way they will get anyone sitting in certain games this season.

If people want to stand, come and join us in the Canton! It's a party every game! Being behind the goal when we score is unbeatable! The banter we sing is funny as hell! (unless its you on the pitch were singing about) We are 90% of the atmosphere at games! Don't be shy, come and join us! Or you can stand amongst fans that don't want you there (probably wearing red and new to football.... Only joking, that's canton banter for you lol) seriously... Glad I don't have any grief at games about standing, I've witnessed it at every wembley experience!

Re: " PERSISTENT STANDING IN THE NINIAN STAND "

Sun Sep 15, 2013 6:33 pm

to me standing is not a problem, I prefer to stand up then sit down because to me that what makes the atmosphere a lot better, its funny because people don't complain about standing away from home only at HOME GAMES, at ninan park apart from a little bit of grandstand and family stand, people were standing up and not complaining, to many people are get comfortable at home games and its making it a boring place to be at times, people need to stop being lazy and start supporting and singing for the team instead of having pie running down there top while sitting on there fat ass

The idea of this is a reasonable one, the away fans pretty much all stand, the two blocks nearest the away fans would be great if allowed standing and the rest of ninian become the area where those who prefer to sit!

Only issue would be people already in these areas and choose to sit, would they want to move?

BANG ON

they leave us alone when it suits them -
We did sky a favour when we made noise against man city - everyone on about it.
A contrast from the dull seated yankee style stadia around the prem.

where is my right to stand and support my team?

are they trying to drive all passionate fans away?

I see the family stand and its embarrassing empty seats is a great TV marketing triumph
(and dont the jacks love to tell us about it to)

get some sense, bring back standing :ayatollah:

Re: " PERSISTENT STANDING IN THE NINIAN STAND "

Fans have been standing in that section since the stadium first opened...

When will the club realise that the fans over there want to stand up? They should just officially make it a standing section, problem solved. 99% want to stand up in that section, there's no more room in the Canton Stand (the only official standing section in the stadium), it's the easiest option.

If fans are complaining about people standing then they obviously haven't been to any games at the CCS before as everyone knows fans stand up in that section of the Ninian.

Same old pig ignorant comments we always get on the forum. So called fans who only care that they enjoy their day as they want to. Why should people who want to sit have to move to a special sitting area. The Canton stand is for standing so move there if that's what you want to do. It isn't the majority in the Ninian who stand it's just a small minded minority who bleat on about being all for one when they really don't care about anyone else's enjoyment. They don't know whether the people sat behind them are even able to stand and they certainly don't give a monkeys about whether anyone can see past them or not. If you need to jump up every two minutes you ought to get out more.
