Eastern High School

What the heck is this?

Rumney High School is what it should be.

All those years of tradition and rivalry with Llanrumney and the Bible Belt next door just flushed down the drain. Its sickening.

part of what it is is too many empty spaces - which means if you are a taxpayer like me, paying for buildings and teachers who don't have enough kids.

And sadly renaming a school is all the rage, has been in England for years where they had a massive capital build programme - along with Academy bollix, which luckily we don't have.

sad but true I'm afraid, nothing lasts for ever mate eh? :ayatollah:

True this mate, Times are a changing unfortunately. Do I continue putting Rumney High School or Eastern High School on my CV though? If I put Rumney and they remove all instances of it then surely could be hard to get a reference from there.

I'd put Rumney mate, with the address.

The local education authority (Cardiff) will have your data centrally as well, so could be another source for your ref. :ayatollah:

This. My old man went there when it was Caer Castell and he still calls it that.

Eastern High sounds like some American cringeworthy drama. The catholics next door will be laughing all the way to holy communion when they get wind of this.

Why are they changing the name?

Re: Eastern High School

Wed Sep 11, 2013 3:57 pm

The battles between Rumney High and St Illtyds were legendery in the 80s

Now that is one thing, but 20 odd years later and many years of doing 40mph along that stretch of road, they have now gone and turned it to 30mph, which is fine
But I might have a ticket or 2 because I only just noticed this weekend ffs

They are merging Llanrumney and Rumney into one school on Rumney's campus. :ayatollah:

I remember playing Rugby against Caer Castell. I lost count how many tries Nigel Walker scored against us. When he got the ball on the wing and put the gas on it was a waste of time chasing him.

Was born and grew up in Llanrumney in the 60's/70's - glanyrafon 1967-1972 ball road 1972 - 1977.

been away for years and years - so with this merge of Llanrumney and Rumney high schools on the site of the old Rumney high (caer castell) are the kids from the bottom end of llanrumney supposed to walk all the way up there? It was bad enough walking from bottom shops to Llanrumney high - no wonder Im still a fat overweight fu--er these days !!!!

Talking of old boys - remember the hard boys of Rumney and Llanrumney getting it on - rumney (John acdie, Dave bishop) llanrumney (andre lee, tony miles, michael chaccia, philip ford(later to become Phil ford rugby league).

Last time I drove down Llanrumney about 15 years ago it was like Beirut on a bad day !!! (sorry boys not dissing Llanrumney, I loved it when I grew up there) - didn,t even know Ball road was closed ?

Can anyone who went there after I left in 1977 tell me if that "language lab" in building 2 or was it 3 was ever open for use ???

and what happened to the teachers - skeebo, texas, rocko, shinner, cheshire(know he was a city supporter Bob Bank in 70's/80's seen him down there or his double), reidy - how many others. :o

I would like to meet up with some of my old school pupils but the last time I traveled a 2 hour drive for a reunion in 2008, hardly anyone turned up but it was nice to see those who did bother (some who did not turn up and knew that it was happening were still living in the area too !!!) :sleepy2:
