this is just by me, take the dog past it - Caerphilly Council announced in May that Newport Gwent Dragons will be training there and have signed contracts so to do from 2014.

not sure about any footie tenants - the site is the old hospital in Ystrad, which was demolished after the new one opened recently.

Both the footie and the rugby pitches will be state of the art 3G, similar to the stuff that is on the Arms Park now and is used in some English rugby grounds (Salford, Saracens).

And both pitches have one stand alongside, so you could see Development/youth matches being played there if necessary - they are building a huge training and facilities building there too.

Can't fault the public sector investment in the last few years - building cinema and Morrisons in Bargoed, this new training facility, Health Board built new hospital, a few years back Lewis Girls and Boys had new facilities, Pengam a complete re-build.

Even the doctor's surgery had a new telephone line put in that actually had a human being on the end of it :old:

The project is to be completed by February 14th 2014 or Penalties kick in.

The 3G football pitch is to be floodlit to Premiership standards and has a stand. Scott Young was involved with the meetings about Cardiff City academy training and using the facilities.

The 4G pitch is going to be the same as the one at Cardiff Arms park. Newport Dragons have already signed up lock stock and barrel to use the facility for all age grade Dragons rugby training and matches. The Dragons first team will also train and be based there.

The facility also has a high performance modern Gym, an indoor astro-turf area and sports conference rooms.

Ystrad Mynach College, which is close by, has also just had plans passed for an 8 lane racing Swimming Pool.
