Wales manager Chris Coleman confirms Gareth Bale will not start World Cup qualifier against Serbia tomorrow night in Cardiff.
' Arsenal FC star Aaron Ramsey could be set to reclaim Wales captaincy '
9th Sep 2013
Ramsey could be handed the armband against Serbia nearly a year after being replaced as national skipper by Swansea's Ashley Williams
In-form Aaron Ramsey could be set to reclaim the Wales captaincy he lost nearly 12 months ago.
Ramsey was appointed Wales skipper by former manager Gary Speed but lost the armband after opening World Cup defeats to Belgium and Serbia last September.
A few weeks later current Wales boss Chris Coleman removed Ramsey from the post and named Swansea City’s Ashley Williams as his captain.
But Williams’ yellow card in Macedonia rules him out of Serbia’s visit to Cardiff on Tuesday night and Ramsey has emerged as a real contender to lead Wales out with Craig Bellamy close to bringing the curtain down on his international career.
“I’ve not spoken with him (the new captain) yet but I’m probably looking at two or three players with experience,” said Coleman.
“I’ve got to get it right, going forward also for the future.
“It’s unfortunate to lose Ash because he has been fantastic for us.
“He’s a big loss but whoever gets the armband is going to have to lead by example.”
Ramsey has been in sparkling early-season form for Arsenal, both scoring and creating goals, and was Wales’ best player in the 2-1 defeat in Macedonia.
The 22-year-old both won and converted the first-half penalty which gave Wales hope on an eventually disappointing night in Skopje.
“I can’t deny he’s not someone I’ve thought about (for the captaincy) because his form is magnificent,” said Coleman.
“I gave it to Ash last year because I thought he was on top of Aaron, who hadn’t got back to his form of before.
“I felt he was under a lot of pressure and that’s why I gave it to Ashley, who’s a natural born leader anyway.
“He was a good choice but I’ve always believed that Aaron would be captain again one day.
“He just had to concentrate on his own game and he’s been absolutely fantastic with Arsenal.”
“Then he comes with us and runs the game, and he just looks mentally and physically different to where he was last year.”

He is really starting to annoy me now. Like his tactics, his interviews are garbage.
He tenure as Wales manager is starting to become a circus. I don't think it will be long before he is removed.
Why they offered him a new contract is beyond logic. This is a results game after all.

......that he really is just a pair of wind-up joke teeth and that he has a special piece of string sewn to his sleeve with his passport attached to make sure it never again goes missing.

As manager he has to make a judgement call on Bale's fitness. GB has only played one pre-season game and it would be logical to conclude he is not fit to start tonight.
Also with the Captaincy Coleman has made the right choice in giving it to Ramsey. I honestly can't see any benefit to changing the manager now. This campaign was lost long ago and CC should (& is) planning ahead for the Euro qualifiers.
His biggest challenge is to ensure that the best Welsh XI is available to him in as many qualifiers as possible. Personally I think the most relevant part to the above article is Ashley Williams suspension for a stupid booking on Friday night. That is where Coleman needs to show strength and rectify rather than getting caught up in an argument over whether a half-fit Gareth Bale is worth playing in dead World Cup qualifying game.

If he isnt fit then dont risk him, I dont think people have a problem with that but dont put him on the bench in that case.

He wouldn't be the first half fit player to warm the bench. TBH I don't see what difference it makes if GB is selected for the bench or not. If he wasn't selected then in all probability it would go to another unused player so what's the difference?
