Cornelius another Kimbo?

Mon Sep 09, 2013 4:47 pm

A lot of people already writing off cornelius. To me I see him as another kimbo, raw talent but because he is new in the country different league etc he is gonna take time to get up to speed and adapt, the same as Kimbo when he first arrived and look at him now, quality!
Do you think cornelius is gonna be the same?

Potentially, just need to see how well he adapts, I hope so because kimbo is a top player for us

Don't know why anyone would write him off, he only played a few mins of a league game

An excellent comparison IMO. I can remember Kimbo's first appearances last season and they didn't exactly fill me with faith.

However, as a true professional he knuckled down and was a revelation in the final third of last season. I just hope Cornelius does the same especially when Frazer Campbell gets marked out of games and we need 'something else'.

I think when he gets his first goal this will make a big impact on him and then he will grow in confidence and thrive

Well done for starting this thread. The question has been going through my mind and I'm glad someone has posted on the subject.

I was oddly disappointed to see Cornelius come on against Citeh. I really want Malky to bed him in slowly and take the pressure off as he did with huge success with Kimbo. Seeing as we play a lone striker most of the time, I think it may be too much pressure give Cornelius PL games too early. As well as the £8m (£7.5m) man label.

The first time I saw Kimbo play was at Millwall in the game that Maynard got crocked. He only got bout 10/15 minutes in a game that was already easily won, but you could sense the pressure on him - he was all over the place! I didn't see him again for a while after that and Malky did the right thing by slowing his intro. So I hope Malky re-assesses with AC aswell.

Personally I would like to see him gain match fitness/sharpness by playing in the DVP side. I think this will help Andreas learn how Malky wants him to play. Though my worry is some of the more negative fans will label him the 'new Etien' if this is done. Even if it is productive.

I see where your coming from but at the end of the day if the kid is good enough and malky believes he is good enough then why not throw him in at the deep end in the pl giving him games and hopefully watch him thrive and get better and better each time?
Putting him on against man city was a positive in my eyes as it shows malkys faith in him and belief in him as a good player capable enough to do a job

I just think by the time Kimbo started getting chances last year, a third of the season was gone at least. Eyes were off him and so was the pressure. Cornelius might well be good enough now, but being centre forward has to be the one position that's most sensitive to confidence. If Malky chucks AC in early and it works - happy days. If it doesn't it could really set the kid back. My thinking is, make AC wait. Let him get used to the other players and his surroundings. It's not like centre forward is our weak spot so far this season...

AC clearly knows where the goal is - he scored in his first pre season game for us, and looks like he knows what he's doing when he gets the ball. The short game he had against Accrington is nothing like enough to judge the guy. I'm confident he'll come through and prove himself.

I feel the same about Etien to a point - people rant and rave that he's not good enough; he's not played enough first team games to be judged properly in my opinion.
