Hull - huge game ?

Sun Sep 08, 2013 9:33 am

At the the beginning of the season most targeted Hull to finish below us in our fight to stay in the Premiership.
Since then both teams have brought in a number of new players so have you views changed ?
I see these games against Hull as our cup final game in our survival to stay in the Premiership. Its imperative that we don't loose against them . To me these games hold far more significance than the Man CIty games although some may argue that it doesn't matter where the points come from in our battle to stay in the division.
Anyone else attaching more importance to these games than the glamour matches ?

All matches are as important as each other as they come with the same amount of points. Everyone sees this Hull game as "must win" and I disagree. Hull will be just as tough as other teams in the premiership.

Huge game.

A definate MUST NOT LOSE (or loose depending where ur from)

Home form vital but a staying up team gets away points and draws
Currently we have a full first team
Through the season we may get injuries and suspensions
Lose form etc.
So massive to get points when ur in form.

Hopefully Pete the Baggie will start notching goals
As it is crucial we get a decent goals scored per good goal chance
Ratio.

This game is opportunity to get 3 points which can take pressure off us and
Put pressure on to others.

Come on City - let's do the ULL boys :ayatollah:

Hull will probably be targeting Cardiff home as a chance for them 2 get 3 points. Definitely a big game for us!

Big game for us, the more points that we can take from our relegation candidates, the better chance we have of staying up.

Lose to Man City, Chelsea etc there is no damage done as they are not our direct rivals in Prem survival and teams near the bottom will probably lose to them as well. Lose to Hull, Palace etc and they gain 3 vital points on us which may be very damaging. I agree with OP that some matches are more important than others and Hull is a game we cannot afford to lose. :ayatollah:

Thats not strictly true in this league. A win against Hull is far more valuable than a win against the likes of man utd and man city because not only are you gaining 3 points yourslef but stopping Hull getting the 3 points. It doesnt really matter if you stop man city or utd getting 3 points. Games like these are true 6 pointers.

We will do well to get a point as they are still on the same highs as we are. Bookies have them as favourites. Lose it and it puts more pressure on us to get something out of spurs. I'd take a point now.

Its definetly the most important of our first 6 fixtures in my opinion
A win would be massive and really show we have what it takes to survive, Id take a draw though

It is totally true. You don't get any extra bonus points for beating Hull.

It's not a "must-win" game. If we don't win, we aren't automatically relegated. :?

It would be great to beat a perceived rival, but it's not a "must-win".

So what's your thoughts on a " must not loose game " ?

Re: Hull - huge game ?

Sun Sep 08, 2013 11:41 am

Well i think it's a must win game in our target for premiership survival. You have to be beating the teams around you as much as possible as we are in effect in a mini league in the bottom half this year. As said above losses against the top boys will not matter as much but picking up points against them like we did against man city is a bonus in helping us achieve our goal.

Re: Hull - huge game ?

Sun Sep 08, 2013 11:47 am

All the games v lower half teams are going to be big ones.

Just think - win on Sat and we will put 4 points between us, we'd have 7 points form 4 games which would be an excellent start, we could relax a little going into the Spurs, Fulham, and Newcastle games, knowing even just 1-2 points from those would leave us in a reasonable state, or thinking 4-5 could leave us comfortable going into the tough run after these matches (Norwich/Chelsea away..) -lose and we are 2 behind one of our big relegation rivals with a run of tough games to come. There would then be more pressure to get points v Fulham and/or Newcastle.

Not the end of the world if we lose, but still 1 less game for us to get our 40 points from.

It's not spelled loose for lose anywhere. But OT. Every game is going to be important if we want to stay up.

I agree with you dicey, these are the games that we need to get points against the teams around the bottom.

Reading all of the replies this is closest to the mark. Every point you get in this league no matter who against is just as important as the next. Norwich and Qpr came up with us so it was probably only natural to target them for points. We took one point off both combined but still stayed up with ease. However, if you take away the 'bonus' points that we gained from the top six, we would have gone down!

Would take a point away from home in any away game this season even against hull palace et al

Re: Hull - huge game ?

Sun Sep 08, 2013 4:05 pm

The simple answer is NO. As long as we get enough points to stay up it doesn't matter who the points are off. Hull beat Norwich at home so a draw will be a very good point for us.

Re: Hull - huge game ?

Sun Sep 08, 2013 4:17 pm

I see this game as one to target as a win, and that's not being dismissive of Hull. They'll be hard to beat.

More importantly, I'm sure the players will be looking at this match as as a game to win.

As mentioned above, getting points from the lower half of the table is paramount......and I'm certain Hull will be included in those teams (along with us!!)

6 pointer very important, if we win that's three points they can't get, we need to win these games more than Man City, not for our thee points which are the same, but more for them missing out on more points.....

I agree that we must be beating the teams who are expected to be around the bottom of the league, yes every point is important but we must be realistic and days like the Man City won't happen to often this season.

If we take points from any side from the top 6 is a huge bonus. Teams like Stoke, Hull, Palace, Fulham ect we need to avoid defeat.

And neither will games against Hull either Carl. You only play them twice, just like every other team. I tell you what, if you stay up this year (and I think you will) We'll go through where the points came from, and I bet you a £ to a penny bucket of shit that games like Hull and Crystal Palace will prove to be much more irrelevant than you think now.

Having 9 players away on International duty may take its toll with travelling/tiredness, etc. Lets hope not.
