' Another Defeat for Wales & So Whats next Chris Coleman? '

Chris Coleman lost his passport and then watched his Wales side lose their World Cup qualifier in Macedonia.

Macedonia 2 - 1 Wales:

Gareth Bale stays on bench as Chris Coleman's side slump to defeat

An Aaron Ramsey penalty was not enough to avoid defeat as Wales' hopes of finishing third suffered a major blow in Skopje

Aaron Ramsey scores a first-half penalty to bring things level...but it wasn't enough

Chris Coleman lost his passport and then watched his Wales side lose their World Cup qualifier in Macedonia.

Coleman had missed Wales’ final preparations for the fixture after having to obtain a replacement travel document and then fly to Skopje from Heathrow via Vienna late on Thursday.

He may have wished he had not bothered as Ivan Trickovski fired the home side in front in the 21st minute.

The excellent Aaron Ramsey equalised from the penalty spot for Wales, but substitute Aleksandar Trajkovski struck the winner 10 minutes from time.

The defeat, combined with the passport fiasco, caps a bad few days for Coleman, who also elected not to utilise new Real Madrid signing Gareth Bale from the bench even when his side desperately needed a goal during the dying minutes, instead opting for Sam Vokes.

Bale had jetted in to join his Wales colleagues following his unveiling at the Bernabeu on Monday, but Coleman ultimately opted not to risk him with the winger not having played since July.

Things had appeared more positive when Wales started well on a poor playing surface with Craig Bellamy and Jonathan Williams both looking lively.

But the opening exchanges were not without their scares for the Dragons as Williams survived an appeal for handball, before striker Jovan Kostovski just failed to get on the end of Daniel Georgievski’s ball across the six-yard box.

Wales did, however, look the more likely to find an opening goal, but were guilty of not making the most of some good opportunities.

Williams was denied by the advancing Macedonia keeper Tome Pachovski after being released by Joe Ledley, while Bellamy’s attempted pull-back to Ramsey was just cut out by a Macedonian foot.

Instead of leading, Wales found themselves behind in the 21st minute. David Vaughan was booked for a foul on Goran Pandev, and when Agim Ibrimi’s free-kick cannoned off the Wales wall it fell for Trickovski.

Wales were stunned having looked the more comfortable of the two teams, and they were lucky not to fall further behind five minutes later.

Chris Gunter slipped as Pandev raced into the area and Boaz Myhill was forced to beat away the Napoli forward’s drive.

Wales then went within inches of levelling through Bellamy, the Cardiff forward’s excellent free-kick had Pachovski beaten, but came back off the post.

But the visitors did equalise seven minutes before the break as Ramsey’s lovely turn saw him evade Trickovski who brought him down in the area.

The Arsenal midfielder was not ruffled and calmly slotted home.

But Ramsey was involved in an unsavoury incident just before the break as he took a forearm in the throat from Vanche Shikov, and then hit out at Pandev as the Macedonian tried to pull him to his feet.

In the stand-off involving Ramsey, Ashley Williams picked up a yellow card which will rule him out of Tuesday’s game with Serbia.

But it did not knock Wales out of their stride duirng a solid start to the second half and Jack Collison had the chance to put them ahead, only to poke wide after more excellent work from Ramsey.

The visitors were now firmly on top, but Macedonia served a reminder of their capabilities when nice work from Georgievski teed up Pandev, but the striker screwed wide with three Welsh defenders closing in on him.

As Wales pushed forward in search of a winner, so they left space for Macedonia to counter, and they were almost punished when a fine break put Trickovski in, but Myhill came out to smother after a poor touch from the forward.

But they were punished with 10 minutes to go, substitute Trajkovski was given far too much time to advance and pick his spot beyond Myhill from the edge of the area.

Didn't see the game but questions will be asked when you have the Worlds most expensive footballer on the bench and you fail to use him when it seems he was needed.

International football is slowly dying. I honestly think that most people shrug their shoulders and think "so what?"

In this country, the Premier League is everything. People are prepared to pay to watch it. Who would pay to watch Wales play Macedonia? Or England to play Moldova for that matter.

If people had to pay to watch the World Cup, nobody would be bothered about international football.

The answer to that question is pretty simple.

Why bring an unfit Bale on when the pitch was in a terrible state and the Macedonian players were going in very hard on Ramsey? Had he came on and got an injury, we would have infuriated Real Madrid and we could kiss Bale goodbye for the foreseeable future.

He hasn't got it. To be honest he had an impossible act to follow, but he's had a fair crack of the whip now.
Goodbye Mr Coleman hello Mr Pullis

Its certainly dying in Wales,it needs the Welsh government to look into it as was requested,if it were rugger they would act, after all their happy to tag on to Cardiff/Swansea success. If you think the senior team losing tonight is poor it is minor compared to the under 21's know that is shocking

To many they don't fella !!!!!!!

I pay nothing more than a passing interest in my national team, and a lot of my pals / guys I grew up with don't either.

I am much more concerned over club football, and just hope none of our players pick up injuries playing for the national team.

Not really anyone much better out there who would want the job. Only one I can think of would be Pulis, but no point in moaning cos it looks like Colemans getting a new deal

I didn't see the game, but I think we are going backwards; especially considering the last couple of decent results we've had were mainly down to Bale carrying us.

Of course, the FAW need to take a good look at themselves - what is the fascination with having a Welsh manager when none of them are any good? People are calling for Pulis, but we all know what his football is like.

I'd question having the likes of Gunter at RB when Matthews is twice the player he is. Also, when we've got the likes of Ricketts and Vaughan still in the side etc, we'll always be on the back foot. Gabbidon was on the bench, when I'd have played him ahead of Ricketts. Also, I'd rather play a left footed player on the right than have Vaughan out there.

What happened to Speedy was tragic and totally unforeseen, but Coleman was a crap manager before Wales took him on - we've regressed as a national team.

There is a lot of focus on Coleman here, yes he is the manager, anyone think the players need to take some responsibility, or there simply isn't the quality?

You can have the best manager in the world, but you can't polish a turd!!!!!

Our home teams are not good enough anymore, how many of our nationals play in the Spanish, Italian Leagues these days, Hmmmm not many.

I agree Wales have a few very good players just now, and the most expensive player in the world.

But we need to realise, we are no world beaters any more and have no right to beat anyone. :old:

Thoughts?

No English captain leading us out next week, might consider my options and go to the game, brilliant. :ayatollah:

Disappointing. Our only points have been against a very poor Scotland side. Some sympathy for Coleman, as he inherited a terrible situation. But no real signs of progress over the last year. Admire the Wales fans who went tonight. I've bought a ticket for Tuesday, so still looking forward to it. Still support Wales.

Looks like Coleman will get a new contract, that is, if he still wants it.

Don't agree that international football is dying, though. Been switching back and fore on SKY tonight. The Belgium, Sweden, and Portugal fans seem to be enjoying it! England still pull in big crowds at Wembley, too. The World Cup should be good in Brazil next year. Looking forward to it.

We needed to win and no disrespect but taking off Collison for Matthews?

We wont get anywhere under Coleman and that is fact unfortunately, you can say the players didnt peform but when your manager is clueless then what hope do they have?!

Re: ' Another Defeat for Wales & So Whats next Coleman? '

Fri Sep 06, 2013 9:38 pm

Statistically the worst Wales manager in history. 3 wins in 12, 2 against Scotland which he played no part in and was purely down to one being individual brilliance and the other being team effort
