Cost Hull 10 grand, and they still didnt get him. They had 2 pay for a private jet 2 take him to Hull from Ireland, plus other costs, hotel etc, then the baggies pulled the plug, lol.

I think he means 10 grand for all the things he listed, flights, hotel etc. a bit gutting I guess that they didn't manage to sign him, but I don't think that amount of money will make much of a difference to the club!

West Bromwich Albion have moved to clarify the background to Shane Long’s aborted deadline-day move to Hull City.

Shane Long remains at The Hawthorns.
The striker was given permission to leave the Republic of Ireland squad to fly to Humberside in anticipation of joining up with Steve Bruce’s newly-promoted team.

But Albion insist they were always reluctant to sell and said it was Hull who pulled back from the agreed fee first.

"Hull unexpectedly contacted us on Monday and tabled an acceptable offer for Shane," said Hawthorns sporting & technical director (designate) Richard Garlick this evening in a statement on the club’s website.

"Given that every player has his price, we discussed it as a club. We accepted Hull’s offer in principle and gave them permission to speak to Shane, but the deal depended on many other factors - including a real reluctance to sell.

"In a phone conversation with Shane’s representative, I informed him that Shane was under no pressure to leave. We were definitely not trying to force him out.

"Hull then informed us they could not finance the deal they had tabled and wanted to reduce it to a level that the club would never have accepted in the first place.
"Given that Shane was not a player we were looking to sell, we ended all negotiations with Hull there and then.

"Contrary to media reports, the decision to keep Shane had absolutely nothing to do with Romelu Lukaku opting to join Everton.

"Shane remains a West Bromwich Albion player and we’re delighted he’s still here.

"He’s played an important role in the club’s recent progress and we are sure he will make another big contribution this term."

Hull plot £6.5m transfer swoop for West Brom's Shane Long in January
14 Nov 2013 22:30
Tigers tried to buy the striker in August and are still interested after scoring just nine goals in their first 11 Prem matches

Hull will make a fresh £6.5million swoop for West Brom striker Shane Long in the January transfer window, writes Bill Cooper.

Boss Steve Bruce wanted to make Long the Tigers' record buy in the summer, but his deadline day bid for the Republic of Ireland hitman was dramatically aborted by Albion just minutes before the window closed.

The Baggies claimed they ditched the deal because Hull could not afford the fee and wanted to re-structure the terms.

But the premier League new boys hit back by insisting West Brom pulled the plug after deciding they didn't want to sell Long after all.

Bruce wants to resurrect the transfer because he needs to boost his newly-promoted side's firepower.

The Tigers have scored just nine goals in 11 Premier League outings this season, and Sone Aluko and Yannick Sagbo - with one apiece - are the only forwards to have netted.

Bruce has made the capture of a new marksman a priority with Aluko sidelined for three months with a torn Achilles and Sunderland threatening to recall Danny Graham from his season-long loan.

And he believes he can land Long, 26, at the second time of asking, as the former Reading star's talks about a new contract at The Hawthorns have broken down.

Long's current deal runs out in June, and the Baggies have yet to offer him a fresh deal.

The Irishman's rapidly running out of patience, and Bruce is ready to pounce and seal a transfer that would make the striker the most expensive player in Hull's history.

Midfielder Tom Huddlestone, who cost £5.5m from Tottenham three months ago, is currently their biggest buy.

Shane Long sings!

Reluctance to sell..... You accepted a offer doesn't look reluctant to me.

He's championship at best...

What does that make Frazier Campbell and our strikers then?

Shane Long is better than all our strikers, a top player in my opinion. FC hasn't cut it.

Playing in a formation that doesn't suit him.

Well in the months from January onward to May he was great but the Prem is not exactly easy for clubs like us.

From January to May we were in a inferior league, some would say his level. I understand it is hard to for clubs like us but I haven't been impressed with his performances.

I think in the 2 sub appearances he has done well, was quite surprised he didn't start v Villa. Really run Swansea down when we was 1-0, MM could of easily went defensive but still went all out in terms of the subs.
