how good is theophile-catherine ? not much about this 1

Wed Sep 04, 2013 5:29 pm

not much on the forum about this guy ... seems a big strong quick centre back to me from videos and data i've read - and can play right back ? and on transfer market he's price at 4.4 to 5 million so a bargain ? was he in his last year of his contract ? thanks in advance if any one got any info they wish to share :-D

He's a right back, who can play centre back, but has been playing left back! :)

Right footed left back who can fit in anywhere across the back four!

There is a good article on him on squawka. He is tall and powerful with good pace and he made 55 interceptions last year; he made 199 clearances, more than the best CB's in the league,; also, he made an impressive 9 defensive actions per game, which when added to his versatility means we've got another gem on our hands.

Extremely promising reports about him already down the city

Strong as a bull and lightening quick are descriptions so far

He has been playing Left Back for Rennes and is known in france as LB not a right back, but has played CB on a few occassions.

He should link-up well with Odemwingie then? His defensive work is excellent looking at his stats, so Connolly might be on the bench for the spurs game?

Sounds a bit like a Michah Richards sort of player to me! Sound's a good signing. :ayatollah:

if hes making a good impression in training already im excited about this one , will he start against spurs? ... - really think we have a v.good starting 11 now and strength in depth and a never give up attitude ... there will be games that we lose but no doubt we will bounce back and give 100% everytime - i think we can rack up 45-50 points IMO this season

His best and preferred position is right back, but can do a decent job in any of the back four positions due to his versatility. Let's be honest, Connolly isn't a very good right back so I'd be very surprised if Catherine doesn't start against Hull.

Looks very promising reading that article, did not realise he was so good. I enjoyed this statement most which suggests he was vital to Rennes not losing games.

"Ruled out with an ankle injury he wouldn’t play any of the last eight games, games in which Rennes would lose six and win just once and conceding 16 goals. They lost an average of two goals a game when he was out, and just under one and a half when he played. He is certainly the type of battling, consistent player that you want in your team when you are fighting for survival."

because we only paid 2.1 mill your not expecting a medel , caulker type player (8-9mill) but i think we may have a splott market bargain ha

I expect to see players like Kévin Théophile-Catherine to come to the fore in the period after Christmas but before Easter. Last season we saw Jordon Mutch and Kim-Bo freshen things up around then. It is going to be a hard slog for us this season so we need players who can step in when others begin to tire.

We paid 1.5 -2 million more than the "Transfermarkt" valuation for Medel and Caulker, but saved over 2 million on the 4.4 million value of Theophile-Catherine.

At fault for both goals Saturday Baz. As I said good going forward but dont look like he can defend.

Happy to be proven wrong.
