Can Spurs challenge for the title?

Wed Sep 04, 2013 11:03 am

Many pundits tipping them to challenge with all the incomings but I still don't think they can challenge this year.

What do you think?

Good squad but will it gel and is it good enough to challenge against the likes of Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool, who I believe this year will surprise many.

Think they need one more striker as Adebayor is hit and miss and Soldado has only scored from the spot so far in league fixtures

Glenn Hoddle not too impressed with them so far - lets hope they only start to gel after we have played them...

No don't even think they can make top four they have a small club mentality they should of easily finished above arsenal last year as they had a much better squad than enemy but they completely ducked themselves up. I think they'll finish 6th this year

1. Chelsea
2.man city
3. Man U
4. Arsenal
5. Liverpool
6. Spurs

No chance. Far too many new players, will take time to all gel.

Will see more benefit of the Bale money next season IMO when all the players have settled.

I reckon it'll end up like this:-

1) Chelsea
2) Man Utd
3) Man City
4) Arsenal
---------------------
5) Spurs
6) Liverpool

they have bought some good players, hard to know at this stage though how they are going to gel together.

Can they challenge for the title? no i dont think so, but until Arsenal signed Ozil i had them as a shoe in for the top 4, now im not so sure.

Never would put arsenal this high up but this season is getting interesting, that top 6 can be unpredictable this year except Chelsea, think Jose will win it for them.

Only 8 englishmen (inc 5 defenders). Shocking really

Arsenal & Liverpool will finish above spurs. Pushing them into 6th

at this stage every club in the division is challenging for the title

Re: Can Spurs challenge for the title?

All depends on how quickly they gel really. They haven't been amazing in the first 3 games so far. I expect them to get into the top 4 and maybe win a cup

They'll be challenging for 4th again, Arsenal have made it a bit harder for them as well by buying Ozil

Haven't seen anything from Spurs yet to suggest they will challenge. So far £105m has bought them 2 penalties (one of which was never a penalty, obviously). Capone, paulinho and Dembele all seem to be the same type of player. Don't think they've got a properly balanced squad

I think that's a fair estimate. My Liverpool mates think they will be top 4 but I think they are relying on too many teams dropping too far and for them to be 100%.

Doesn't look great for the Champion's League though. Chelsea lacking up top unless Eto is a revelation. Man U have Fellaini who may struggle at that level as he adapts but then they are weak in the middle (at that level). Man City don't look amazing but may do better than previous years but no chance of winning it. Arsenal will probably have a standard Arsenal season in the CL.

It's tough to say for spurs. They've spent a lot of money so the media will be on top of them. But they've still only got one real striker that suits their system.

Think they'll struggle to get in top four. I reckon it will be:

Chelsea
Man City
Arsenal
Liverpool

Man Utd
Spurs

AVB is trying to do what he attempted at Chelsea, except he's had more money and freedom (less players like Terry and Lampard getting in the way) to do it. They've signed a lot of players and a lot of young ones too. Will the likes of Eriksen and Lamela be able to inspire and single handedly win games at such a young age and in only their first PL season? I'm not sure. It will take a while for it all to click, and I don't think they'll be title challenges this year. Spurs fans laugh at Arsenal but they have consistently finished in the top 4.
