After his showbiz style unveiling at Real Madrid yesterday, Gareth Bale flew back to Cardiff to get on with the job of helping Wales round-off their World Cup qualifying group in style. Rory Benson met up with Wales boss Chris Coleman, who was full of praise for his star player, today.

Chris Coleman is delighted Gareth Bale has linked up with Wales

Gareth Bale has joined up with the Wales squad but is a doubt to start either of the World Cup against Macedonia and Serbia – according to Chris Coleman.

The 24-year-old world record breaking superstar, who was unveiled to the Real Madrid fans at the Santiago Bernabeu yesterday, flew back to Cardiff overnight to link up with Coleman's squad.

But the Wales boss says the former Tottenham flier is unlikely to take the field from the start in Skopje, having missed most the pre-season and the Premier League's opening weeks.

The Wales boss, who admitted he was delighted the Cardiff born star decided to fly home to join up with his squad, said: "I can't speak highly enough of Gareth's attitude.

"It takes talent and attitude to be a top player.

"Gareth will train today and he'll be assessed over the next few days but I doubt he'll start on Friday."

Coleman later admitted that Bale, in the wake of his whirlwind transfer, will not play a full 90 in either match but said: "He could play a part in one or both games.

"We are aware a lot of people will want to see him play in the home game against Serbia.

"But he has no chance of playing 90 minutes on Friday or on Tuesday.

"We will see how the next few days go for him physically and mentally because it's been draining for him.

“He will train with group, doing some specific work but will be doing tactical session with us too.

“We will monitor how he goes in the sessions.

"There is no chance of playing 90 minutes, but how much he can play over the next two games will be determined how he reacts next 48 hours.

“But main thing he's here and that shows he is passionate about Wales.

"He called me on Sunday to say he was on his way to Real Madrid, that he had the unveiling but he would catch a flight back and that speaks volumes for him."

Coleman paid tribute to Real Madrid for not standing in Bale's desire to want to play for Wales in this double-header, including the Serbia game at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday.

Has not payed for ages, so a couple of games for Wales should do him the world of good. Not that it matters, Real Madrid only have one club to worry about. Micky Mouse league, really. Bit like the SPL.
