A forum for all things Cardiff City

Hey everyone,
Interested to know how everyone feels regarding just how busy Cardiff were during the window. 7th highest spenders in the Premier League, and some real prospects in the squad.
But other promoted clubs have taken a similar tactic, and it hasn't always worked out. See this article on QPR and Stoke's spending, and why it worked for one, but not the other:
http://hitrowz.com/2013/06/14/premier-l ... de-part-1/It seems clear that spending the money alone will not be enough. It is highly likely that this will only yield results if spending is aligned with tactical certainty and a unity of leadership and support at the very top of the club.
Does everyone think that holds for Cardiff?

Its not necessarily the players but how they gel and work as a team . MM work ethic is next to none .
we`ll do OK - plus first season is a learning curve

Well I was one who certainly thought that we could struggle this season, unless we brought in more Premier League proven players, who would improve the team in certain positions!
I was more concerned after the first game at West Ham, but having despatched Man City back to Lancashire with their tails between their legs and having witnessed a very accomplished performance, which gave us a creditable draw against Everton as well, I'm now far more confident about the season ahead!
Malky has certainly added wisely in bringing in 2 quality players in Caulker & Medel and with several of our unproven players at Premier League level, like Whitts, Taylor, Gunnarsson & Whitts, all showing that they can make the step up, things are looking a lot more rosy!
With Fraizer Campbell showing his pedigree, great work ethic and undoubted bravery to date, along with what appear to be a couple of good astute signings in KTC & Odemwingie, I'm more than quietly confident of a mid table finish, although I'd still be delighted with finishing above the bottom 3 clubs come May 2014!
It's still going to be a very long season and we have to show some consistency, but if Cornelius and other fringe players can show that they're capable of making the step up, we keep up our team work ethic, then I can only see good things happening at City!
We've bought Quality players with good team ethics, QPR bought a lot of mercenaries and I believe that the new QPR is Crystal Palace!

Tactical certainty.
Unity of leadership.
Support from vt.
These are the ingredients along with the players we've acquired that'll see us finish between 11 and 15th.
Malky will also strengthen in January.

Ben
Thought your piece was good.
I hope to think we are more like Stoke in that case.
QPR then and now, pile in with numbers that could affect balance.
What we had last year was a team to get promoted from what is a tough division of scrapping.
Most fans could see that we had issues in defence plus we needed a striker or a sitter behind the striker to attack or unlock defences.
We used to sometimes lose momentum in final third and not put teams to the sword when we had chance.
What Malky has done is brought in 4 defenders (Caulker/Brayford/Theophile-Catehrine and the Uraguayan) to the squad plus loan out Ben Nugent for valuable experience.
We needed additional keeper cover and have a great keeper now in from Brentford.
We needed protection for back four and an opportunity to re-release peter whittingham - we brought in El Pitbull.
We have brought in 2 types of striker Cornelius, young gifted target man with good feet and an eye for goal plus Odemwingie, fast experienced goalscorer who can attack a defence.
I hope we've gone quality over quantity and these players grasp the chance
