Wide Men

Mon Sep 02, 2013 7:07 pm

Been really please with the clubs transfer business this summer but I think we would have missed a trick if we do not bring in a wide man.

MM bid on Ince & Montero and at least enquired/bid on McManaman. What has changed not for us to sign a wide man?

MM seems reluctant to play Noone and can you say Conway/Smith are proven Premiership wide men with pace? All the better teams in the Division have pace and I hate to say it but thats where the Jacks out and out strength is.

To compete we need a wide man who can beat players, get a decent cross in and score goals. Surely we cannot play in a defensive 4-5-1 all season or until the next transfer window. Lets hope that a rabbit pops out of the hat in the next few hours or Noone is given a chance in the top flight. :ayatollah:

I mentioned it last night and also got shot down by one of these posters that claim to be in the know.

Malky obviously wanted a speed merchant on the flank.

I'm not overally disappointed as I think Odemwingie is an excellent signing for us but I'm surprised he didn't get that player he seemed to really chase after.

I think a out and out winger with pace and a good cross would benefit our game so much considering the way we play, but wot do i know ay :laughing6:

We have played West Ham away and last seasons 6th and runners up. We have 4 points.

Odenwhinge (must learn the spelling) Campbell and Bellers up front is quite a threat. Maynard looked lively.

Noone is a bully, if he can get on top of his full back in the first 10 mins he is great, if he can't- pull him off. Conway is a better away option as he is very good defensively but I am 3 stone overweight and probably faster than him.

We carry Kimbo defensively, so the winger have to be grafters to compensate and can't go missing.

I think that Odemwingie is a very good signing which will improve the squad. Just would have liked to see an out an out wide man come in.

Most teams in the Premiership have them, look at Puncheon who Place brought in recently. Don't really rate him but he has that Premiership experience with Southampton and he had a very good debut last saturday against Sunderland.

If we do not get a wideman in I hope that MM gives Craig Noone a chance to start some home games and be on the bench for away games. Go behind away from home e.g. West Ham and there is nothing different on the bench to change a game.

I don't agree that we carry Kimbo defensively, I'd say we carry Whitts a hell of a lot more.

Bellers on an quick fire interview when asked

the most underrated he said Cowie - Cowie is the first sub

The most skilfull = He said Noone.

Bellers is closer to Malky than normal players. I found the public vote of confidence to Cowie and Nooney interesting.

I would watch the replays of our games again. Whitts is doing a covering job up and down the flank whilst drifting inside. Kimbo is in the hole and is our luxury item. Thats his job, not moaning. But if Nooney plays it means dropping Gunnar or Whitts and a lot of graft leaves the field.

Or we drop Kimbo

Not sure what games you been watching but defensively Whitts has been class in the last few games!

There's a perception Whitts does no work for some reason.

Very unfair on him I feel.

I've been watching Cardiff City from my ST in the Ninian Stand. Whitts defensively is reluctant to challenge for headers and lets players come at him too much. Going forward and set pieces he's superb. Don't worry I haven't said I want him to be sold. Just didn't agree that we carry Kimbo because I think he gets stuck in.
