Think you'll find you'll have to pay VAT on any purchases over £18. :ayatollah:

You'll usually pay between 5% & 9% but certain items can be really high. Remember you will also pay VAT so you should try and get it tax free at the Indian end.

The link gives you an idea but you will have to call the number and tell them what you are importing to get the exact cost of duty.

Use a carrier who will sort it all out for you (or one that don't care and it may get to you without being checked ;) )

You will pay for delivery and usually the carrier will say you are liable for any duty and VAT, but you will not know the amount until the carrier is advised when it arrives in the UK.

You could be lucky and the package isn't checked and you will only pay for the item but if it is checked you will need to pay the extra taxes, whatever is quoted.

I would therefore phone the number and get a rough idea of what it may cost. At least then you don't get any shocks and can build it into you're full costings.
