Carl, BBC sport is saying that the jacks were reluctant to match West Brom's asking price of £4m as they didn't want to spend over £2.5m on a 32 year old.. CityGent said yesterday that we blew their offer out of the water, does that mean we are going to spent near £4m on him? good player but surely only got a season or two in him at his level?!

I would rather pay double for McMannaman from Wigan if we are talking that much money

Report: Swansea City end Peter Odemwingie chase

Swansea City are unlikely to continue their pursuit of Peter Odemwingie after refusing to meet West Bromwich Albion's £4m asking price for the striker.

Michael Laudrup wants to add another forward to his squad before the close of the transfer window to help ease the goalscoring burden on Michu and new signing Wifried Bony.

Odemwingie, 32, is up for sale following his disciplinary problems at the Hawthorns last season, but Wales on Sunday understands that the Swans are only willing to pay £2.5m for the Nigerian.

Instead, Laudrup will return to the Spanish market to try and lure Getafe striker Alavro Vazquez, who scored four goals in 25 La Liga games during the 2012-2013 campaign, to the Liberty Stadium.

Premier League clubs Cardiff City and Stoke City are also apparently considering bids for Odemwingie.

No better than Rudy I'd imagine with that kind of record!

If we have to pay £4m for him, then that's total madness.

Re: ODEMWINGIE

I'd pay 3m max. I'm sorry I really want him here but 4m for someone whose not got any re-sale value on him(UNLESS an Arab side buys him) is risky at this stage.

If his goals keep us in the Prem, then that's totally worth it. :old:

Agreed.

He's a good player, and will score goals no doubt.

But at 32, £4m is far too much.

I still worry our team will be lacking any natural width this season, which is okay against the better teams and keeping it tight, but when we're home playing the likes of Sunderland/Hull/Palace/Norwich etc it may be a slight problem.

He has'nt played competively since January, Chuckles. Could be while before he's match fit.

In my oppinion no its not, swansea can afford to not pay 4 million as they have a tidy squad outfit,

we on the other hand have one day left and this is a player who may score vital goals and assists for us this season, we dont have premiership replacements in midfield and we need him

More than a slight problem we will get relegated with this group of attacking players.

Seriously lacking any pace and creativity.

Exactly, the window closes tomorrow and we clearly need more goals, we don't have that many options, all good teams have four strikers plus to spread the load and cover for injuries......

I meant to add he is versatile and very willing, and is as good a winger as he is a Striker, which covers two positions, with one set of wages. Malky is trying to maximise our 25 registered players ....

Exactly, Polo. It's been ages since Ince turned us down. Surely we could have closed the Montero deal long before the agent got greedy.

If we continue to play 451, which seems to be Malky's preferred option, we only need one striker a game anyway!

Lets get one thing straight, the jacks only offered £1.3m and we agreed the £2.5m that West brom wanted, it was never £4m in a 1000 years

I'm sure CityGent will put me right if I'm wrong but I think we blew Swansea out of the water in terms of contract.

We won't be paying anywhere near 4million. WBA know they can push it a bit higher as there are a few 2 million bids in. I'd assume 2.5million will do it.

Interesting that the report above says Swansea would go to 2.5million but not pay 4million. Interesting if he does go for 2.5million
