' Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay calls for calm after Manchester City hysteria '

Saturday 31st Aug 2013.

After an amazing week following the Premier League win against Man City, Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has appealed for calm among the fans

Malky Mackay wants everyone to remain grounded at Cardiff City
Malky Mackay has called for a mixture of calmness and passion as Cardiff City aim to follow victory in their first Premier League home match with success against Everton today.

“Winning against Manchester City was a major shock, we won’t hide from that,” said Mackay.

“Now, against Everton, we want more of that same atmosphere in our stadium. We want fans to give us that passion again.

“For our part we must stay calm, level-headed in all situations. Our job is to go out and do the job in a professional manner.”

The Bluebirds hit back from a goal down to win 3-2 and leave Manchester City stunned in defeat.

More than 27,000 spectators were at Cardiff City Stadium – and it’s another sell-out for today’s clash.

" Opta Facts "

Cardiff City have the chance to win back-to-back top-flight matches for the first time since April 1962.
Roberto Martinez has won just one of his last 10 games as a manager in the Barclays Premier League (W1 D5 L4).
This will be the first competitive meeting between the two teams since September 1979, when they met over two legs in the League Cup. Everton advanced by a score line of 2-1 on aggregate, but Cardiff won the home leg 1-0.
Only Manchester City (66.5%) have averaged more possession in the Premier League so far this season than Everton (64.7%).
Cardiff won 51 points at home in the Championship last season, losing just two of 23 games (W15 D6).
No team has used more English players than Cardiff City so far this season in the Premier League (8).
Former Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy has scored three times in the Premier League against Everton. However, he has failed to net in his last seven appearances against the Toffees in the competition.
Should he score, Craig Bellamy will become the first player in the history of the Barclays Premier League to score for seven different clubs in the competition.
Frazier Campbell is already halfway towards equalling his best ever goal return from a single Premier League season (four in 2009/10 for Sunderland).
Only once under David Moyes did Everton fail to win any of their opening three games in a Premier League season (2010/11; D1 L2).

“The atmosphere was fantastic at our stadium throughout last season,” said Mackay. “It’s heightened a little because we are in the Premier League, but regulars will know what I mean.

“From a team perspective we take every game on its own merits. I fully understand the size of our task and the differences from last season when we were one of the favourites.

“It’s going to be tough every time we play this season, but we will try to win every match we go into and relish that task.

“If I, as manager, don’t believe as each match kicks off that we can win I should be taken to task. We went into our League Cup final against Liverpool believing we could win and nearly did.

“It would remiss of me if we didn’t feel we could win any game we go into.

“My eyes are wide open about the Premier League, the highs and lows we will face. It’s about staying calm and levelheaded, not getting too high or too low.

“Our aim is to stay in a consistent place, ensure players have belief in themselves and dampen down outside interests.”
