MALKY SAYS EVERTON NOT DISTRACTED

Fri Aug 30, 2013 4:20 pm

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay insists the speculation surrounding stars Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini will not distract Everton in tomorrow's Premier League clash.

As Monday's transfer deadline looms closer, former Toffees boss David Moyes is expected to make a £40m raid to add the pair to his Manchester United squad, while there is also likely to be interest in midfield star Steven Pienaar.

But with the Merseysiders keen to resolve the situation one way or another as soon as possible, the Bluebirds boss insists the furore will have no bearing on tomorrow's game, thanks to the professionalism of Everton's former Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez.

He said: “I think every club at the moment is getting used to speculation around it's players.

“We've had a lot of it concerning players we want to bring in.

“But I know Roberto Martinez really well and he will be totally professional and have his team focused on the game.

“There has been a lot of speculation surrounding his players, Especially Fellaini and Pienaar, but I'm sure the professionalism of Roberto, his players and his coaching staff will mean all focus will be on us and not what surrounds his football club.”

After the shock win against Manchester City last week, pundits around the country have been warning teams visiting the Welsh capital to 'beware the Cardiff City cauldron' and now Everton, yet to register a Premier League win, are up next.

With interest in their star players about to reach their peak and a deal to bring in Man City star Gareth Barry still on the cards, there is a lot for the blues to juggle.

But Mackay is backing his pal Martinez, saying: “He will be looking after his own team and his own game plan and he's very confident in his own ability and his own team.

“They will respect us but they will be doing their own thing, I'm pretty sure.”
