Was Ian Dowie right?

Thu Aug 29, 2013 2:28 pm

I really hope not regarding Andreas Cornelius.

Last night Dowie, criticised Cornelius regarding his first touch, also had ago at Cornelius that he was playing against a Division 2 club and was in one way saying that he was not good at all. Then Dowie went to far in my opinion and virtually said Cornelius was prob happy to come off

Did Dowie go to far over the top on Cornelius last night or was Dowie right to?

In a word.....yes.

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

...what do you think?

Young guy. Confident. Needs settling in. Needs minutes. Will learn from watching probably, which injuries are likely to help with. Not helped by fact that when fit, we will need to change to play to him.

Something tells me he will be OK.

Annis if Dowie had anything about him he would have a real job, but he doesn't, so he ends up as a Z list pundit on Sky where he thinks his role is to rubbish managers, players or referees.

A f**kwit who is best ignored.

I think he went way OTT. He's just moved to a new country, and has had a horrid pre season, just came back fron injury too. He'll do very well IMO.

Got to admit Cornelious looks a bad signing.

However Dowie is wrong to say he wanted to go off.

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

Thu Aug 29, 2013 2:37 pm

bit worried too annis an 8.5 million pound signing should fit straight in bit like gaaaary did really worried in fact

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

Judge him after a season, not 2 games. The same goes for Medel and Caulker.

I seem to remember a lot of fans raving about Noone at the start of last season and criticising Kim. Who's the better player now?

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

Thu Aug 29, 2013 2:39 pm

doesn't dowie do his research and know cornileus aint fully fit and lacks game time!, no wonder dowie is such a shit manager, one decent season with crystal palace and that's it, baffles me how he got to manage qpr, carlton when they was decent

AC has to show what he can do & as yet he hasnt had the opportunity! Settling into a new environment , period of injury , pressure of , albeit temporary ,record transfer fee ! Dowie , is on SS because he supposedly know the game , his comments show that he doesnt !

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

Annis I was there last night he did nt look very good ...but come on he needs time to settle/adjust ...he's now our player so needs and gets my support .....IMO gestede looked really good his improvement is stunning our coaches are doing a great job with him :ayatollah: Declan John also stood out for me :ayatollah:

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

Whether Dowie was right or wrong remains to be seen.

What cannot be right is making up your mind on a player based on leass than 45 mins in a relatively meaningless cup tie. Similarly some of the comments made on here are bizarre given the lack of game time.

This is a 20 year old guy who is playing in a foreign country in his first big move. Within weeks many have already decided this is a big waste of money  That may, or may not, prove to be true but it's massively early to be crucifying him.

Let's see how he progresses after the injury and then make a more rounded judgement on him :ayatollah:

What the f**k does Dowie know?

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

Thu Aug 29, 2013 2:43 pm

Shock Horror:

A rushed back from 4 week injury/not match fit Andreas Cornelius was nervous about injury and price tag.... Result - the guy shows he's human......

It's all way over the top this reaction - the fact is, he's 5 weeks behind everyone else regarding match practice and fitness.......

I'd rather take a positive outlook on Andreas and believe these "informed" comments:

Based on what? The 5 mins against Man City? Or what someone told you about last night where apparently he had crap service an not much to feed off?

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

Thu Aug 29, 2013 2:48 pm

After a couple of injuries you can lose sharpness. That'll be temporary. Even though we paid the £8m for him, Cornelius is still only 20 and has arrived at a club where the coaching and levels of peak fitness demanded are going to be a world away from anything he has experienced in Denmark

Once he gets over the niggles and gets a few games under his belt we'll soon see the best of him. No reason to panic

Give him a chance, crap pre season, new country got to settle in and he is young, hardly any games so far. We got to give him time, City fans on his back from the start just the ticket

Just a couple of throw away comments by Dowie.Like someone else said-if he knew what he was talking about he'd have a proper job.

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

Thu Aug 29, 2013 2:54 pm

We got to give him a chance, and cant judge him on just 40mins,in saying that tho,his total lack of ability, against very poor opposition, was worrying

Kevin Ratcliffe said during the game on Radio Wales that Corner should watch a video of Rudi's second half performance to see how a big centre forward should really play. I'm a Rudy fan, but I couldn't believe my ears :laughing6:

For a new player from another country, not a good pre season hardly any game time and you said looks a bad signing. I would say that is getting on his back, but that is just my opinion

And my opinion is he looks a bad signing from the 2 games I've seen him play in.

If the games were against premier or championship quality then fair enough but its been against a Conference team and a side propping up the 92 league teams.

First impressions count. Saying that I hope he proves me wrong. There you are I'm not on his back now.

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

Give him time guys, he's young, needs games and fitness...... From what I saw last night his touches were a bit dodgy, but he ran at there defence with a lot of confidence at times. His bullet header at forest green was really good as well. I did doubt him at first, but lets forget about his price tag and support him the best we can, I'm sure he's gonna develop a lot better than rudy ! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: Was Ian Dowie right?

Thu Aug 29, 2013 3:27 pm

Absolutely ridiculous judging a player on a less than a half of a football game. He's just come back from injury, and it seems to me he wasn't ready.

At the end of the day he was still top scorer in his league, I know it's of a different standard, but he was still scoring and doing well. He's also played and scored for Denmark and to me it's clear the lad does have ability. It takes time sometimes for players to bed in to a new country and league and to make the step up. There is no doubt in my mind that he will be be a quality player and in a few years time we'll probably struggle to keep hold of him.

Inept manager who hasn't achieved anything in his managerial career slags off twenty year old first team Danish striker who was touted by top European clubs, who was making his first start on a League 2 pitch with defenders resorting to mistimed challenges to stay in the game.
