Peter Whittingham Club legend

Wed Aug 28, 2013 9:47 am

Anyone else really excited that Whits could make his 300th league appearance as a bluebird by the end of the season?!

One of the very few players who can relate to ALL the highs and lows of the past 7 years.

Come May, at the age of 29 we could be looking at a player who has played over 300 times for Cardiff while scoring approximately 70 goals from midfield and bags of assists.

Will no doubt be an out and out Cardiff legend.

This is for Whits :ayatollah: :malky: :ayatollah: :malky:

Good post!

Lot of people have slated him in recent times, especially towards end of last year, mysel included.

I think his performance Sunday proved he can mix it with the big boys and his dead ball ability is still top notch.

Peter Whittingham, he does what he wants!

I liked listening to Gary Neville say about the second goal that he had not seen a cross like that since the likes of Andy Hinchcliffe and its for reasons like that which I wish he would still play out wide

Yeah that comment by gary gave me goosebumps! But the problem with that would be that Whits simply cannot beat a man down to the by line and he is classy down the middle with his defence splitting passes. Saving his great crossing for set pieces will be enough IMO

The last time he played on the wing he scored over 20+ goals in a season through. Beckham could never beat a man but the crosses would create just as many goals as defence splitting passes. Personally I think its easier to get a central midfielder who can create defence splitting passes than a winger who deliver the top notch crosses for the men in the box.

he's not quick enough to play on the wing and can't beat a player,
He has the intelligence to play in the centre, anyone else notice when Turner and Nugent had the ball las year if it wasn't hoofed then they looked for Whitts

everyone knows his best position is on the wing so hopefully malky will keep there and hel have a cracking season :ayatollah:

You dont have to be able to beat a man or be quick to play on the wing if you got the quality of crossing the ball like Whittingham has. You only have to look at Beckham as a prime example of that.

On the other hand you can also look at the likes of Lennon and many others who have the pace but can't cross for toffee!!!

alright, we all have our opinion about where he should play but that wasnt the point of the thread.

He's done a job for us for so long left right and centre! (maybe not right) :notworthy:

I kind of agree you can get away with being slow if you can pick a cross out but we're talking about Whitts not beckham, silly to compare them

I've always rated whitts.
He's a class act and proved his doubters wrong against man city.

Should play centre midfield IMO. Especially if we are only playing with Campbell upfront. Sounds silly saying this after his 2 headers Sunday but you would expect 2 centre halfs to deal with Campbell comfortably in the air

Whitts did play on the right hand side of midfield under Dave Jones. It might have been the FA Cup Final season 2007/8?

Goddamit nobody likes a know it all. To be fair I do vaguely remember him being utilised in that role because we had whits, ledley and sinclair in that season I believe

I can see him getting to 400.

Great player big part of all we have done and developed really well too.

Probably best to build a team around him that allows him to "do what he wants" but Malky wants him to be more organised than that. He didn't especially play left wing, as a winger anyway. In the 09/10 season he rarely got outwide just cut in and arrived late in the box.

Kim is central at the moment but hopefully Whitts will get his chance there.

No ones really mentioned Cowie's delivery for goal three. Given the shit he gets he deserves some credit.

Brownie is right. He should be playing LAM to be honest. You don't need to have loads of pace as Liverpool proved with Maxi Rodriguez. Whittingham's delivery and Taylor's on the overlap would mean 2 players with quality delivery on that side. We should be looking at a right winger with pace to put the pace down the right hand side and have Kim in the middle on the overlap. Even Bellamy could go right wing as well as he is right footed.

Yes he does deserve credit IMO, another great delivery, a lot of people on here slag off the likes of Cowie, Connelly, Taylor etc, say they are not good enough. How do you know, not seen them enough at this level. Give our players a chance. The Malkster obviously thinks they are good enough or they wouldn't be in the match day squad :malky:
