Confession

Wed Aug 28, 2013 8:59 am

I decided not to renew my season ticket for this season. It was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make but the combination of the re-brand and the birth of my first child led me to decide to not renew and use my Saturdays to do family stuff.

I wouldn't say I am regretting it but God I wish I was there on Sunday. Watching it on Sky at my mother-in-law's house in Merthyr on her birthday wasn't the same. I also miss the banter and the people I sat with. Just the whole atmosphere. It's not even about playing in the Premier League. I'd be missing it if we were League Two. It's amazing. You don't fully appreciate how many emotions and feelings a game triggers, even a boring 0-0 draw against Barnet!

I know I made the right decision but it is tough. Anyone that has stopped going for whatever reason and says it isn't is either lying or not a proper fan! I am so pleased for all those that witnessed the Manchester City game first hand and hopefully you can experience more top performances like that both home and away.

I have decided to return to watch games when my son is old enough to decide what sport he wants to watch. I will then accompany him to watch that sport. Hopefully it is football and Cardiff. :ayatollah:

Steve, the right decision in my opinion as long you wear BLUE
Fans from the past deserve to not miss out
Yes I hate the rebrand, but to walk away just let's another glory hunter fan in and there are plenty of them waiting.

Annis you can't keep being so bitter towards "glory hunters".

They are just new fans, all clubs get them just look at the top 6.

Wrong attitude from pro blue fans imo, all fans should be welcomed.

Do you think they will still be here if we do a Wolves, I think we all know the answer to that, it's easy to support a successful team and that is the point here, it's like having two sons, one who started at the bottom and worked hard to get there and the other handed life on a plate.

Agreed, but I don't think that calling new fans or ones that have returned due to the good times, should be labelled as glory hunters!

Some people are happy to watch football at any level and many others attended games during Annis's seemingly preferred era, purely for the "Crack!"

People are entitled to attend whichever matches rock their boat, at whatever level we play at!

It's the same with concerts and the theatre, people will pay more money to watch top concerts and shows, but won't go out of their way to watch dross and I don't blame them for not following us when we were sh!te!

Im sure there's plenty of new fans that have made this message board as big as it is.You got to live with the times.I think I prefer seeing a full stadium last sunday to a couple of thousand cheering us on

Cheers Annis. I know this might sound strange but the re-brand and us playing in red will be easier for me to handle if my son just enjoys watching the football. Just so long as he doesn't want to watch the Blues! Not sure I could handle a rugby season ticket!

Well that's up to them really isn't it.

Its not when you start surely?

Just because someone went to barnet on a pissing down tuesday, new fans are just as entitled to start supporting us, its simple, we need a constant turnover of fans and cant rely on the 200 in barnet to keep us going.

I don't think anyone has any problem with new fans that want to support the club. They will have a problem with new fans who turn up just to watch the opposition. I remember when we went up to the Championship and the number of fair weather fans that started coming was unbelievably. Luckily, we gained as many loyal fans as fair weather fans and I am sure the same will happen this season.

Sorry for hijacking your thread.

Know what you mean, been supporting them 20 years not always gone but noticed the differences you mention.

Some do have this attitude of "glory hunters" mind.

Enjoy your time with your boy, hopefully when he is about 5/6 he will be ready to go :ayatollah:

I embrace some of the genuine new fans, that includes my kids for a start, and we need the support to survive, my point is, lets assume we have picked up 15,000 fans in the last few years, we all know that half of those will go back to supporting Liverpool etc from their armchair when the going gets tough and these are the ones that annoy me. I used to work with a football mad, Liverpool supporter who used to take the piss out of me for following my home team, he said he wouldn't watch Cardiff if they were playing in his back garden, ST Holder now and another example, at the cup final, an adult in front of me was actually wearing a Liverpool beeny hat ffs. BTW, I do think your being Barnetist, Free the Barnet 200

Steve, are you not entitled to a Season Ticket next year as someone who was part of the 'Ambassador' scheme?

As I read it, it stated people (and I know some who took advantage) could have a year off but still be entitled

The atmosphere was superb on Sunday; by far the best in the new stadium to date (and the Citeh fans helped too) :ayatollah:

Re: Confession

I weren't going to renew, but then I thought of the consequences. The thought of missing that on Sunday totally changed my mind. I couldn't live without goin to the football

Hi Sven. I was not aware of that. It's an interesting clause if true. I feel quite the fool that I've seen us in all three Football League divisions and flirting with non-league but the minute we finally win promotion to the Premier League I have a sabbatical but know I did the right thing by me and my family.

My mates have said that I could have their tickets if they are unable to go to a game but not sure I could become a season ticket holder until my lad is old enough to come with me. Argh! Why is this such a mind f**k?!

BLUEBIRDS! :ayatollah: :D

I feel your pain, mate. I am pretty sure that was the agreement and it might be worth at least getting your season ticket for next year (the last of the Ambassador years, I think?) even if you have to 'farm it out' to to trusted people in order to get your money back until your boy is able to go with you ;)

I have a mate in work who cancelled his ST after the Ridsdale fiasco and didn't go the following season. However, come League Cup Final Day he did what many others did and renewed his original ST under the terms of the original agreement :)

Well worth a call to the club, methinks

I hope it works out. I can appreciate your dilemma from all sides :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

problem with your point of view of so called 'glory hunters' is youve encouraged it

sleeping giant

Cardiff could be huge

the welsh barcelona

make up your mind you either want Cardiff to be these things or you dont, or are you happy for that to happen but only allow your exclusive group of fans in the ground?

Re: Confession

Thu Aug 29, 2013 8:58 pm

I would rather a glory hunter than an empty seat.

Family do come first but I think with regards the rebrand some people have cut there nose to spite there face.
The number of posters tho who take the moral hight ground on the rebrand and talk about never going to the CCS that then made appearances at our promotion game and on Sunday amazes me. Either make a stance or not but don't ridicule others.

Re: Confession

Fri Aug 30, 2013 8:11 am

We were never gonna be a massive club without gaining new fans. Personally i find them annoying but happy to share my team and my ground with them because, when our expansion is complete our ccs will move from 30th biggest in england/wales to 16 or 15th, just behind upton park. If we stay up we will fill it as much as we filled the old one in the championship and these numbers mean we will be a properly bigtime club again with a huge support. While our likl jack cousins are still the small fish they always were in their tiny egg sharing council dump
