Brayford

Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:15 pm

Does anyone know why he can't get on the bench, Malky stated "He was the best fullback in the chapionship last season". Has he upset someone?

Re: Brayford

Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:22 pm

Rumour is, he's already had a bust-up with Malky.

Re: Brayford

Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:23 pm

Who would you have replaced on the bench with him on Sunday?

Re: Brayford

Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:28 pm

I don't see the point in having a RB on the bench.

I guess he is just down the pecking order at the moment.

Re: Brayford

Puzzles me too. We are still playing Matthew Connolly out of position. He's doing a good job but he's not a full back.

Re: Brayford

Wasn't he carrying a knock?

Re: Brayford

It's called easing someone in, this is real life not FIFA Sorry.

That's what I thought.

Re: Brayford

Probably being eased in, silly to make too many changes to the team at once.

And better to have players that are able to play a few positions on the bench, not like we can cover every position so that's where utility players come in handy.

If as Malky stated that he was the best championship full back, no disrespect to connely but I would have started with him.

Re: Brayford

Concerns me a little bit that we have forked out £1.3m on the best full back in the Championship, offered super Kev a new contract and then made Connolly who is a centre back who can play at full back our first choice?

Is Brayford injured

Tue Aug 27, 2013 2:54 pm

Anyone know whether the guy is injured , even after Sunday I still can't believe Malky is persisting with Connolly. I'm also struggling with his decision to play Turner ahead of Huds.

There's another thread about Brayford & don't you think Turner fully justified his selection on Sunday, I thought he was excellent and is forming a good partnership with Caulker?

My thoughts exactly. I really hope he will not turn out to be another Velikonia and gets ignored by MM for whatever reason

City were sold a pup with Velikonia. Plainly not good enough.
Why was McNaughton given a 2 year contract? He's not good enough for the championship IMO.
Brayford? Weird one this but who can fault Connelly after Sunday's display?

if we lose a couple on the bounce and start looking shite then its time to question it, i did wonder myself mind why connolly was rb after west ham away but in fairness they were all pretty bad away to west ham. He chose to stick by him and look like made the right choice for that game at least :ayatollah:

Turner was statistically our best defender Sunday and made the most clearances in our team.

IS BRAYFORD INJURED?

Anyone know if he is injured at the moment or not?

Connolly is a makeshift full-back... but in my opinion, still the best right-back at the club and better than Brayford. He had a mare against West Ham, but so did most of the others. He was excellent against City, and deserves to keep his place. I think it will take a run of 3 to 4 consecutively poor games for Brayford to be thrown in. That said, I was surprised not to see Brayford on the bench against City, especially considering he played the full 90 against Accrington.

You say he is better than Brayford, what evidence do you hold to justify that statement, how many times have you seen Brayford play? is MM talking shit by saying he was the best FB in championship last season? didn't you see Connely getting skinned and being caught out of position time and time again last season? Just curious.

I saw Brayford at Accrington. He has a good engine getting up and down the right, is tidy on the ball and pacey. I worry he sometimes overdoes it when he bombs on as often as he does because this leaves lots of space in behind him. He wasn't really tested defensively at Accrington so I can't comment any further than that right now.

Well OK, looking at it objectively. Brayford had more shots on (8) and off target (13) than Connolly last season (6 on, and 6 off). However, despite that Connolly still scored 3 goals from right-back as opposed to Brayford's 1.

Connolly also featured in 9 clean sheets as a right-back as opposed to Brayford's 6. So you could argue that Connolly's CB mindset makes him a more defensively minded right-back than Brayford.
