Cardiff in talks with Ecuador winger Jefferson Montero

Cardiff City are in talks to sign Ecuador international winger Jefferson Montero, Sky Sports understands.

A number of Premier League clubs have been keeping tabs on the 23-year-old wide-man in recent months.

Now Cardiff are ready to push ahead with a deal for Montero, who is currently playing with Mexican outfit Morelia.

Montero is now in the process of obtaining a visa which will allow him to travel to Britain and undergo a medical, ahead of the proposed deal.

There are not expected to be any issues over obtaining a work permit as he has nearly 30 caps for Ecuador, who are ranked 17th in the world, just behind England.

It will be the second time in his career that Montero has played in Europe as he spent three seasons in Spain with Villarreal, Levante and Real Betis before heading to Mexico in 2012.

I listened to one of his podcasts recently, he really does seem to know his stuff regarding south American football. He was very surprised we were able to sign Gary Medel.

Hopefully Montero will be a great addition to the team.

Personally haven't heard, but when Malky was asked today about Finnbogason it was a direct NO, but when asked about Cuenca it was a"I don't talk about players at other clubs"

Yes I remember that. "Hearing rumours that Man City are in for him - no deal close yet" was close to what he said. He aint got a clue.

cuenca would be a class addition

We can look at Montero in both ways. Could be close or could be his agent trying to force clubs into making a move with false information.
