A forum for all things Cardiff City

A championship team has turned over a top Premier League side.
Nine of our eleven today were Championship players with us last season.
They have just beaten one of the most expensively assembled squads in European football.
How good is that
Another thread for the jacks to pounce on

One word......f*cking amazing

All I keep thinking about is how we were renowned for not turning over 1-nil defects when DJ was manager. Now we are doing it in the PL against title contenders.

As we discussed earlier, this is one of our greatest results in the last 20 years, our team today as you said mainly Championship players, hats off to Malky once again

Its just now sinking in. So proud of every one of them players. The likes of Taylor, turner,Whitts and connolly showed that they can compete at the top level. You simply dont beat Manchester City by accident
so proud

Last season they were Championship players but now they are Prem players, they play for a Prem side.
Your doing them a disservice by calling them Championship players.
They beat one of the teams tipped to be Prem title winners and rightly so with the squad they have.
The City won today through sheer guts, effort, teamwork and the sheer will not to be beaten, they've passed the test they are Prem players on merit.

It was not a derogatory comment, it was to highlight how many of our players were Championship players last season and smacks in the face those who gave those players any chance of beating the £219 million pound team they faced.
Our players are Premier League players and have earned their right to be there, they are 11 v 11 and deserve respect for what they achieved last season and now what they achieved yesterday.
I am proud of the players, the manager, the club and our name Cardiff City.

This is showing how Malky's recruitment policy is paying off. He doesn't buy big name players - he buys young players who show lots of ability and he will make them into big name players himself. Most of his signings have been around the ages of 20-23, good players like Gunnarson, Kim and Turner, players who are still improving. some of these have definitely improved to become Premier League players.
If they become very good players, and the bigger clubs come in for them, then they end up worth a lot more than we paid for them, and the club gains some financial kudos too.
Why buy Premier League players when you can grow your own?
Its the modern way, and is actually a theory first developed in America and applied to smaller baseball teams, to enable them to compete against the big spenders. Read the book "Moneyball" (dont watch the film!) to see the theories.

I like the style of buying only a small number of players but ones of very high quality... Obviously it's working and it keeps the team solid with not too much gelling of the new players to do

Few points to make out. In the 11/12 and 12/13 season, Man City didn't lose their first game till Christmas time. Man City only lost once when taking the lead all season.
Incredible
