CARDIFF FANS MARCH IN BLUE TODAY

Sun Aug 25, 2013 2:21 pm

Looks like a decent number to me. More importantly the media seem to agree.
Media says 500 plus, BU say 1,000

AUGUST 25th 2013

Taken from BBC :

Fans opposed to Cardiff City's change of shirt colour from blue to red have celebrated the club's heritage ahead of the first home Premier League match.

Organisers of the Bluebirds Unite walk from Cardiff Castle to the stadium said it was not a march against the club.

Malaysian owner Vincent Tan changed the club's colour to "lucky" red last year as part of his investment.

Cardiff enjoyed a stunning 3-2 first Premier League win over Manchester City.

Earlier, around 300 fans gathered for the start of event at Cardiff Castle, with numbers swelling en route.

Sian Branson from Bluebirds Unite said: "We are trying to do something positive. It's celebrating the history and heritage of the Welsh capital's football club.

"We can't understand the reason for the rebrand but we are not marching against the club or saying 'Tan Out'.

"It's the first game in the Premier League and we are not being represented on the pitch as our club and we're trying to show what it means to us.

"Why should everything before last year be forgotten.

"We hope the owner will take notice and see it's a mistake and we can have it rectified for next season."

Tan first put in £6m at the club after being asked by his friend Dato Chan Tien Ghee, the former chairman of Cardiff City, around three years ago.

Initially he was in the background as an investor but after loaning the club more than £30m, he decided to play a far more active role when he saw Cardiff lose in the Championship play-offs at the end of the 2011-12 season.

His first move was to carry out the controversial rebrand in an attempt to gain popularity for the club in Asia.

It included making the bluebird emblem less prominent on the club crest and changing the home shirt colour from traditional blue to red.

Last month, Tan said: "If too many fans show that we are not welcome then maybe they will have a new owner but right now my experiences are that we are very welcome."

Cardiff won the Championship title last season and began their first season in the Premier League with a 2-0 defeat at West Ham United last weekend.

Today undoubtedly belonged to Cardiff City Football Club but I have to say the BU march appeared to pass without incident and I think they can be proud of their event :ayatollah:

So proud to march with fellow Bu and Pro Blue City fans today, we did ourselves proud, all passion, no abuse of ANY fans not wearing Blue and we showed once again that we can show how we feel PEACEFULLY. We are not going away, this is just the start. Teza BU.

Well done to them. A good march.

I'm glad it went peacefully and in fairness there was a lot of blue in the stadium today

However, BU showed again today that the vast majority just don't care enough to get involved. 500+ at most is hardly representative of our 24k fan base and unfortunately for them their foot has been well and truly shot off by their previous antics.

Today showed that the most important thing at CCFC is the team and that's where our efforts should be applied rather than pursuing a pointless cause that hardly anyone has an interest in.

You might think it's a pointless cause but many fans who care deeply about our TRUE identity would beg to differ and they showed that today. Proud of every single one of them and if more people, who aren't just getting on the Premiership bandwagon, felt the same, we wouldn't have a mix of 50% loyal and 50% plastic.

Terry who are you accusing of getting on the premiership bandwagon and why not just leave it on a good note for BU that the march went well

Tony, I agree that the football took centre stage today and that is exactly how it should be ;)

However, even as someone very against the march in principle, I will give credit to the (comparatively) few that attended and the way they appeared to conduct themselves :ayatollah:

I wore 'blue' today, as I said I would, and it appeared many others did too. Tan certainly couldn't miss that and IMHO it spoke far more loudly than the BU march did ;)

Each to his/her own, though and I can't say anything other than EVERYONE got behind Malky and the team and EVERYONE deserves credit for creating an atmosphere that resonated around the footballing world :ayatollah:

Success breeds success and if the team continue to do us proud, the protests will slowly but surely subside as people begin to realise that there is something very 'special' happening at our club :ayatollah:

BU and their supporters should be VERY proud of how today went.

I met the march on St Mary St, and if i'm honest, I said I wouldn't take part, it was solely down to being with others who were joining in.

The noise coming up St Mary St was amazing, it drew in so much atmosphere and really was an amazing start before the game.

It was very touching to see such passion, and every single person marching conducted themselves very well, and a win for the bluebirds to top it off was fantastic.

All peaceful, the message was sent and it really did raise my opinion after some FB publicity really did damage what they were trying to do. (hope that makes sense!)

Well done to Sian and everyone marching today, made me feel proud before we even got the the stadium :ayatollah:

I was quite happy by the way City players represented Cardiff City today. Probably not a marcher I'm sure, because they ain't stirring shit at all, however my daughter met me and said that some bloke told her boyfriend he should take his red shirt off because he was a plastic he's 18 but could pass for younger, just saying. No way was it a BU member I'm sure. But shit stirring will stir shit.

If you class "plastics" as people who decided not to join your march then its clearly not 50/50. Deragotary terms like this are the reason that most people are just concentrating on enjoying the football and dont want to be associated with bluebirds unite. You off to Accrington on wednesday?

Tan is correct, you represent 5% of the regular supporters.

I agree with every intention of the BU, I wore my two year old city polo shirt today with my retro scarf. But its the pious nature of some of BU that make my blood boil.

I was shocked with the amount of red in the Ninian stand today....

 Anyone got a 'foot in mouth' smilie?

Not joining BU does not make you plastic. Wearing a red City shirt does not make you plastic.

Congratulations to BU for their march. I'm glad it passed peacfully. Would like to know the actual figure that attended; heard 500, 800 and 1,000 - that's quite a large difference.

:laughing5: @ 'Only one Sian Branson' song (if true).
