Cardiff ready to take a defensive approach against Man City

MALKY MACKAY admits Manchester City counterpart Manuel Pellegrini’s biggest concern at Cardiff tomorrow will be where to park the team bus.

Marshall insisted the Welsh side will have to produce a defensive masterclass

But goalkeeper David Marshall, borrowing Jose Mourinho’s famous phrase, says a defensive approach could be the Premier League new boys’ best hope of success tomorrow.

Cardiff, fresh from an opening-day defeat at West Ham, host their first top-flight game for 51 years against Pellegrini’s all-stars.

The big-spending, blue half of Manchester started their campaign with a 4-0 rout of Newcastle on Monday night. But Cardiff manager Mackay hopes his side will provide a sterner test.

Mackay said: “If I was Manuel, my biggest worry coming to the Cardiff City Stadium would probably be access for parking!

“But I’m sure they will be very respectful of us.

“Manuel is a top manager, who is an incredible professional. He will do his job and homework properly.

“It will be a tough game for us because we are playing against a team that can punish us very quickly.”

For Cardiff to pull off a shock result, Mackay’s defence must stop the threat of City’s fearsome front line of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic.

And Scotland goalkeeper Marshall, above, insisted the Welsh side will have to produce a defensive masterclass in order to gain their first point of the campaign.

Marshall said: “I watched City on Monday and it was a great performance. It will be difficult.”

But Pellegrini has warned his players of the dangers of complacency as City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain stepped up his search for a new defender following confirmation that skipper Vincent Kompany will be missing for a month after tearing a groin muscle against Newcastle.

With Micah Richards nursing a hamstring injury and Matija Nastasic only returning to training this week after a month out with an ankle problem, Pellegrini is short of options.

But he insisted it will not be the walkover for City that many are expecting.

“We are not going to make the mistake of underestimating Cardiff,” he said.

“They may be new to the Premier League but they have a good team.”

They won't like it too physical! Are you having a laugh? Yaya Toure lives for the physical side of the game.
They are a side that have everything.
I just hope we see more endeavour from our boys than we did last week.
I can cope with a hiding and the team and Malky will still get my full support, but don't want to go through another game where we had absolutely nothing to get excited about like last week.
