Lawro & Manchester City Fans ~ What Are They Saying??

Mark Lawrenson's predictions

Cardiff need to make massive improvements going forward after failing to get a shot on target against West Ham on the opening weekend.

If their £8m Danish striker Andreas Cornelius is fit then that might make a difference, but the shortage of chances created at Upton Park must have been a real worry for Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay.

It looks like Manchester City will be without defender Vincent Kompany , who picked up a groin injury against Newcastle but, even so, they have just got so much quality.

Their tempo was so high against the Magpies, which is the way Manuel Pellegrini always gets his teams playing, and I expect them to do a similar job in Wales.

I am sure there will be a cracking atmosphere for Cardiff's first home Premier League game, but even that will not be enough to help Mackay's side.

Manchester City have got some top-class players and I don't think they will be intimidated. In fact, they will probably enjoy it.

Prediction: 0-2 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23784502

Have been to Cardiff twice , mind you that was at Ninian Park back in the 1980's ..... my first visit resulted in a 2-1 defeat , when one of the home charmers threatened to 'cut my throat' on the short walk from Cardiff train Halt to the ground .. but on my second visit we won 3-0 (i think Tony Cunningham got a couple for us that day) ...... however i didn't go to the FA Cup loss there , which i believe was a bit on the 'lively' side , to say the least !

Cardiff may well be a family friendly club these days , but i can still imagine that the atmosphere there will gee the home club up a treat come next weekend ..... however we have enough quality to give them problems in midfield , and up front , and we've got to make that pay in light of the Vincent Kompany injury.

Looking forward to this game.
Cardiff will be parking the bus, we will have about 70 - 80% possesion. we should start with the same 11 against Newcastle, minus Kompany if not fit.
We will come away with a 2 or 3 nil win.
Aguero and Dzeko the scores ;-)

Agreed mate.

Whats needed at grounds like this is a squad all together and believing in just how good they are and realising that the 3 points are a must.

last season we lost that mentality but i firmly believe we have it back in bucket loads.

My last experience in Cardiff was in February 1967 at Ninian Park in a third round cup tie with Cardiff a division lower than City. It ended up 1-1 but Alan Ogley had a nightmare in goal. He just couldn't take goal kicks without fluffing them. The more mistakes he made the more the packed crowd got on his back and the more nervous he became.

I was mighty relieved to get out of there with a draw and for City to win the replay.

I am dreading this game to be honest.

Not the best of times to be playing a recently promoted side with this being their first home game, their fans being well up for it and feeding energy to their players.

These are the games that we need to be improving on, it was not just last season but even in our title winning season we made a meal of our away games at the likes of QPR, losing to Swansea, drawing to Fulham away and losing to Sunderland etc...

Pretty much our away form under Mancini on a whole was pretty poor compared to the quality we have available.

United showed last week at Swansea how to win your away games, they got played off the park in the first half but they were very clinical with their chances.

Of all the promoted sides I think Cardiff have the most sting, I think they'll get a goal. Malky will get them pressing high up the pitch tirelessly in attempt to throw City off their pace, Pelle will be patient and will just bide his time. Wouldn't be surprised if Cardiff lead 1-0 for something like 40 minutes and City still win 3-1

It is Cardiff, and I'm not underestimating them, I expect a tough game. I would throw Boyata out there if Nastasic can't go.

I think there are too many giving cardiff too much respect on here, I reckon City will destroy them with ease and win 5-0 we are the best team in the PL by miles as far as I am concerned and should not be worried about one of the bottom 3 teams.. Forget last season, that was then, this is now and we will romp this league.. Man up lads, this is the start of our domination of the PL for many years to come... You wont hear Pell crying his eyes out about fixtures or slagging any other teams off, what you will see is a wry smile and him clutching the PL Title and the FA Cup this season!!!

Mackay will have already identified our injuries at CB and will surely think their best chance is to pump the ball into our box at every opportunity, hope to score first and get the crowd on our backs from first to last and see if we've got the stomach for the battle.

I'm hoping for a 2-1 win.

Some of you need to get your heads and eyes checked. We should easily walk away with 3 points.

If you believe in hoodoos and bogey grounds, the omens are not good. Since World War Two, we have played Cardiff in the league in 13 seasons, and our record away to them is: Played 13, won 2, drawn 6, lost 5. (Our last win there was 84-85, 3-0, scorers were Tony Cunningham (his only League goal), David Phillips & Clive Wilson).
I know, we are much better, the teams are different, even the stadium is different, but logic is often irrelevant. Look how we have kept losing at Sunderland to a much inferior side. I hate the Stadium of Light.
We also lost 6-0 there in 1953, when the late Phil Woosnam played his one and only game for City.
Cheer me up, somebody.

Seems like they believe it is going to be a difficult game and a difficult stadium to visit. However, I do think they are basing those opinions from memories of Ninian Park, it wont be the same thats for sure. I cant see us taking anything but a pasting to be honest. Although any points picked up against the top 6 have to be looked at as bonus points, not many around us will get anything from them.

Mixed opinions in terms of how they will perform.

I was reading through the forum last night and many of them are expecting a hostile reception like we were still back in ninian park. Luckily for them ccs is nothing like the old lady, and not very intimidating to other teams

Yep it's funny to see most of their old guards are expecting ninian park days. Funny enough it's no where near that... their away fans will probably be louder than us..especially by 2nd half!

To be fair, our reputation has gone before us in the past and many of these bigger sides won't have experienced Cardiff since those days - they're probably all expecting a nightmare crowd coming down here...

allot of fans respect us through ninian park it seems, what a major loss! need to start recreating the same atmosphere, only 2/3 matches stick out that have been anything like the old lady but im sure man city will prove to be major, cmon bluebirds! :malky: :ayatollah:

in my eyes it will never be close to ninian park unless they swopped family stand with canton stand - then there would be a HUGE difference in atmosphere...
