Will we bring anyone in before weekend??

Tue Aug 20, 2013 8:09 pm

Probably a lot of work going on behind the scenes to secure a couple more players but do you think we can get 1 in by the weekend?

Haven't heard us linked with anyone in the last few days but that obviously doesn't mean there's nothing in the pan...

Not sure how far down the line we are with an offer for montero either...

Hope so or we are going straight back down.

Been the story of the summer.

Weve added just 4 players capable of getting in the first team and of those only 1 proven at top level.

Not good enough.

By the weekend?

Cannot see us securing any new faces by Sunday, and a heavy defeat will only make Malky's Job of attracting the quality he needs all that bit harder.
One thing is certain is he will not give up.

Agree we need at least 3-4 players and get rid of are dead wood within the squad.

Personally I think we have set our ambitions to high, nothing wrong with that but I'm sure our aim is survival? We should have looked at players who are capable of doing a good job and I believe would def have improved our squad. I also think we could have brought these in earlier in the window and would have made our preparation a bit better. My concern is if we get a smashing on Sunday it will be hard to try and attract the world class players in that malky wants...

I would have preferred us to have gone for players like Maloney, Dorrans, bridcutt, Parker even maybe Hughes from derby.. Not world class but talented players who would have added depth and more quality than we already had.

Prior to the season starting I never thought I would see rudy and tommy smith in our match day squads!! This tells me we don't have the depth and certainly not the quality throughout!

Totally agree with all that mate.

Quite frankly Rudy getting in the pitch on Saturday shows how weak the squad is at moment.

Our bench was shocking for a PL side who just spent 30m.

It was a mid-table championship bench. Not good at all.

We were utter gash on the weekend, the football style has to change and I'm pretty sure West Ham won't have many easier home games this season. That said we'd still finish above Hull and Palace if the transfer window finished tonight and no more players were bought.....feck knows who that 3rd team will be. We're going to be fighting it out with west Brom, Fulham and Sunderland for it imo. Let's not fecking panic after 1 shit game.....a couple of decent signings will see us stay up.

Things are starting to get worrying.

Let's take a look at some facts:

1. We were promoted 18 weeks ago today - MM has had nearly half a year to get enough quality in.....
2. 5 players out, 5 players in - Squad no bigger than last year......
3. MM has stated he will not make any apologies for targeting Top Quality players - fine, but when you've "wasted" 18 weeks of valuable time on this strategy and purchased 3 "Top Quality Signings" (Brayford & Moore dont really qualify in this bracket IMO) for nearly £26million on your head be it if we are getting outplayed in the other 8 positions on the pitch....

It's starting to wear thin his usual line on transfer activity IMO.
Following Saturdays "lesson" at West Ham I truly thought there'd be mass activity at the beginning of this week, but, it seems dead.

We have 13 days to craft our team/squad for half of the season at least - lets hope it's not too late the next time we get the opportunity to add class/quality to the squad.

Your right our bench was dreadful... Players who hardly featured during the championship and our supposed to be our game changers in the pl... Hopefully cornelius will replace rudy on the bench this week.. Noone at the beginning of last season had me on the edge of my seat at times. I remember the nutmeg on the edge of our area and the quick break down field. No where to be seen sat, instead he uses an out of form smith...

I was baffled, we needed an injection of pace and it wasn't there... Matt Jarvis came from the championship from wolves and ruined us...

Some will say noone can be hot and cold but smith has been cold since his injury and his shooting is shambolic... If we are going to use smith as a 32 yr old player for experience then an attempt to sign say a player like Scott Parker wouldn't have been deemed wrong!!

Cant see Fulham dragged into it tbh not with the quality they already have plus Bent and Parker just signed.

We gotta hope Newcastle stay in turmoil, Sunderland, Norwich and Stoke maybe.

Its gonna be tough.

so instead of buying 3 top quality players....you'd rather get 8 not as good but improve the team. we'll be waiting for them to gel and then fall behind. we've lost one game one ffs

Sorry but 3 quality players are not going to keep us up we need strengh in depth which we don't have.

There are a number of players we could have brought in who would have improved the squad and not cost 10 mil a pop..

Our aim last yr was to bring in players who could do a job to get us promoted. I.e. helguson, smith etc... These players did the job for 1 season.

We now should be looking at players who can come n an improve the promoted squad and help us maintain pl status. Once achieved we can then push on an attract the bigger names..

With this squad we will be falling behind anyway

ffs we should just get behind the team and see what happens thats what cardiff fans do all the sucsess following fans are gonna hit the ground with a bump lets see if they still wanna support city then.

Support what we have 100 % and lets leave malky do the recruiting never throw a game away before we have kicked a ball i hate people like that. The players need to beleive and so do we . :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I'm always behind the team 100%. But it is my opinion that players like rudy and tommy smith are not good enough for the championship let alone the prem league and its worrying that we only had these options on the bench on Saturday to try and get us something from the game...

30m on 4 players is a massive risk, can't help but think we might not recoup all of that back

Re: Will we bring anyone in before weekend??

Tue Aug 20, 2013 9:09 pm

I agree Rudy or smith not good enough but what other options did we have.Cornelous injured so no other target man options.I agree with malkys stratergy of 4 maybe 5 better players than 10 maybe better players. Are most of these comments off people who thought we could do more than just survive 10 days ago after the medal signing? We knew it was never going to be easy and look at west ham home record and nobody gets much from there.Sunday will be twice as hard but even if we don't pick up a point until October I think we are much better off than 6 weeks ago before the signings. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I look at the signings Palace and Hull have made, Sagbo and Figuroa (wrong spelling granted) think they could've offered something to us,But no one else.
I have said before Bridcutt is a player I rate,Hunt also would just add strength in areas we need.

I don't see where our next signing will come from, even Malky has stated many targets and agents have used the club to get attention of other clubs. Hopefully one day in the future,we will be one of other clubs who's attention they're trying to get,but for now we must just do what we can.

I remember when all the good news week posts were going up and the in the bag unamed players were hot topics,a post appeared suggesting MM was Struggling to even get Players to even sit at the table to discuss terms. Don't know what happened to it?

Either way,Sunday we can relax. It was and always will be a freebie of a fixture.. No pressure or expectations.
Lets just enjoy it...
We need to beat the teams around us,for they will be the results that keep us up.

Re: Will we bring anyone in before weekend??

The bench was poor Saturday.

We need to get rid of Smith and maybe Gestede as much as I do like the lad and have a joke on here but some how MM does like him so less likely to see him gone.

Connolly and Smith shouldn't be getting no sniff around the team and it's obvious to see why they get sent out by the teams they been out with.
