Hoofball is not the answer Malky

Tue Aug 20, 2013 2:29 pm

and statistically here's why.
Long balls from central defensive pairings this week and their success rates. (successful long balls / long ball attempts)
26 / 39 Southampton (67%)
9 / 25 West Ham (36%)
18 / 21 Everton (86%)
10 / 18 Sunderland (56%)
4 / 17 Cardiff (24%)
9 / 16 West Brom (56%)
6 / 15 Crystal Palace (40%)
7 / 13 Spurs (54%)
4 / 13 Liverpool (31%)
10 / 12 Stoke (80%)
7 / 11 Fulham (64%)
8 / 10 Man City (80%)
8 / 8 Man Utd (100%)
4 / 8 Norwich (50%)
5 / 7 Chelsea (71%)
6 / 7 Swansea (86%)
5 / 6 Newcastle (83%)
3 / 4 Hull (75%)
2 / 3 Arsenal (67%)

The success rate of 24% says it all. We need to be playing it out from the back lets have some possession football.

The four bottom teams all got destroyed.

Man City 4-0 Newcastle
Man Utd 4-1 Swansea
Chelsea 2-0 Hull City
Villa 3-1 Arsenal

Hoof ball must be the answer as Southampton and West Ham won and they're top.

We just need more accurate hoof ballers.

A 2 goal defecit is being destroyed? Surely then you got destroyed by West Ham?

This is a classic example of lies, dam lies and statistics. Its a pity it didn't show actually how many played and how many completed instead of just percentages.I do remember the odd long clearance but not that many.Look at the jacks-high % but they got tuned.Don't really mean squat.

yes we do but we haven't got any at the club hence the reason to start playing out from the back.

Yes it does 4 from 17 successful long balls made by our defence, look at man utd's success rate - 100% that's why they hammered the jacks and 24% completion rate for us is one reason why we lost

Yes we did. I think we were worse than Hull were just being honest and were overwhelmed by the fact we were in the Premier League on the day. Im not going to lie. Every time we were pretty much on the back foot and had wave after wave of West Ham attacks coming at us.

My one mate in the pub who is a Liverpool fan said it reminded him of Call of Duty Zombies with them coming from everywhere. I know I shouldn't have laughed but he wasn't far off. Although I did quickly remind him the people of Liverpool are more reminiscent of Zombies than our squad.

:laughing6:

It was poor tactics by Malky and poor team selection. I've stated the team that should play vs Man City and its a major change up.

You didnt. If you got destroyed you would have lost by a larger margin than 2-0.

Man Utds finishing destroyed us in what was a pretty close game, however way you look at it 4-1 at home is getting destroyed. 2-0 away from home is just a comfortable win, they didnt ever look troubled and seemed happy to win 2-0.

It certainly felt like getting destroyed. Poor performances all over the pitch and wasted chances from them
Prevented a 4-0 loss easily. We couldn't string two passes together and had one shot of note.

Malky's team selection leaves a lot to be desired, anyone who puts Rudy Gestede and Don Cowie in their premier league match day squad will be in deep trouble. Noone,Conway and Joe Mason left out to make way. We had no cutting edge and froze on our biggest league game for 51 years.

We were lucky to get out of London with a 2-0 loss and I fear for us Sunday unless Malky bucks up his ideas and stops this hoofball nonsense.

Cant disagree with that. I knew the championship was bad and you didnt look that strong but didnt really realise exactly to what extent. West Ham are not a great side in the scheme of things, we narrowly lost 1-0 away to them and stuffed them 3-0 at home. When you face the likes of United, Chelsea and Man City so etimes its just helpless, there is literally nothing you can do and just hope they missfire in front of goal. Nolan and Cole both took their goals well but the likes of RVP, Aguero, Lukaku they can score a hattrick n 30 mins no sweat. I genuinelly cant see how you can stay up unless your squad is dramatically immproved. I think 4 or probably more like 5 QUALITY experienced prem players.

RVP was the only difference between you and MU on Saturday, as much as I hate to say it.

He was ridiculous. Best out and out striker in the world in my opinion.

Thought Bony did well when he came on though. I'm expecting similar impact from Cornelius.

Jury is out for me on Bony. He looks a beast and can finish but im not sure he will justiffy the price tag, for some reason i have a niggling doubt about his over all game.

But in fairness there werent many decent strikers around at the end of last season. although his record is excellent and 3 in 3 for us so maybe im just being overly cautious considering we spent what is ridiculous money for us. I remember getting excited when we signed steve watkin for 108k. If you told me that 8 years down the line we would be signing someone for £12m id have laughed at you.

Bony is a classic 'Fox in the box'. He is a team player and is finding his feet. 3/3 ain't a bad start.

Agreed. I slated him early on but its clear to see he ain't the player I thought he was. I thought he was more like Gomis playing between the lines but hes not, he's a poacher through and through. His football intelligence is on another level and hes in the right place at the right time - its clear to see why he scores so many.
