As a few people have said, he was a shadow of his former self on Saturday. I hope to god it is just a confidence issue that can be sorted out, rather than he is past it.
I certainly don't think he is past it and I hope I am right. We need Bellers right at the top of his game for us to stand a good chance of staying in this division. Maybe the two games a week is finally taking it's toll on him. I would like to see us rest him for the next game and then bring him back in because when he is playing, we need him firing on all cylinders.
Onto the team selection.. I would love to see us play a 4-3-3. But first of all the midfield and defence needs to be sorted. First game of the season, big wake up call for us! I personally think we missed Hudson's leadership in the back four and it'll be good to see how he reads the game at the next level because he was outstanding at it last season. Connolly was a very good full back in the championship, but I never felt confident with the better quality wingers the premiership that he would win the battles. Personally I would bring Hudson and Brayford back into the fold and let's see what happens.
The midfield.Pretty much sorts itself out. Medel read the game brilliantly on Saturday and you can see is a top player, but he can't do it all on his own. Gunnar had a shocker on Saturday, give Mutch his chance because it isn't going to do any harm seeing as we're playing one of the top sides in the league next game, which we wouldn't expect a result from. Personally I think sort our strongest side out now which will give us a better chance to get more points later on. Playing 5 in the midfield I think it would be good putting Kim out wide with a free role with Whitts who can drop in if Kim runs off doing his thing. Have one of Bellers or Nooney on the other side of the midfield with Mutch, Medel and Whitts in the centre of the park.
Don't start slating, this is just my opinion on what I think would make us stronger, but I am sure Malky has plans of his own.
IN MALKY WE TRUST.
