El Pitbull & today's game

Sat Aug 17, 2013 7:50 pm

Cardiff's best player and he'll only get better. The goals were down to defence not closing down quick enough and the worrying factor was they looked very disorganised. Declan John only 18 years of age has a great future - he did okay!
I thought second half we were better and matched them for periods, but we just lacked that little bit extra to get Frazier involved more in the game. Bellamy was well below par and maybe should've been replaced earlier on. All in all, we relied too much playing through the middle and lacked the width and pace to get at them. The way Kadeem Harris has been playing recently, I'm surprised he was not on the bench today in place of Gestede, he could've made an impact, especially when we went 2 down and he would've added pace out wide which we lacked all game. Thoughts anyone!
Anyway,10 out of 10 for the Cardiff support though!!! :ayatollah:

Good point about Kadeem. He's been flying. Whatever happened to selecting people on form? :?

Bellamy was the only winger and threat from the flanks. He was struggling to get into the game and we had no other options on the bench to replace him. West Ham sat behind the ball and made it difficult for us to get Frazier involved in the game and they did not have to worry about the flanks too much. In other words Malky had no plan B to change the pattern of play - only my opinion of course.

I thought the team looked a bit flat today, didn't seem to trouble West Ham too much, all long shots etc.

I'm not too worried though, this is the first game, and teams that stay up don't necessarily get points at grounds like Upton park. The Everton game is where we need to make sure we are on top form though.

It does worry me what happens when Cornelius is out (even though we don't know how good he is either). Bringing Gestede on is not good enough IMO. I like the lad, but he's not Premier League class.

Had Cornelius been playing today the result would've been the same. Frazier got no service whatsoever. You need width as well as playing it through the middle.

You need width as well as playing through the middle. I meant to include, today we had neither!

i agree, i only saw the second half due to playing myself. but from what i saw they seemed to constantly target the left wing/fullback (where we had acres of space and the inexperienced john).

The thing is why wasnt Noone on the bench?

I agree, even Conway. I dont rate and neither do a lot but he was good enough to come off the bench against England the other night..

Spot on - we need to hit the byelines & produce quality ball into the box ! However much faith we have in Malky , he's learning the trade at this level & it's a mega step-up from last ! Give him time !

These were the subs:

32 Lewis
05 Hudson
18 Mutch
19 Cowie
14 Smith
15 Gestede
23 Maynard

I can understand Lewis, Hudson, Mutch, and Maynard but not Smith, Cowie and Gestede. Noone/Conway, McNaughton and perhaps giving Kadeem a chance over either Noone or Conway.

Medel is going to be a big player for us this year, really impressed with him today. Only player who looked like he wasn't over come by the occasion. The more centrally he plays the better.
