Blakey's Boot Room: Join in live from 1pm

Fri Aug 16, 2013 11:17 am

We're back! Just over 24 hours before Cardiff City begin their debut Premier League campaign, Nathan Blake and the team will be live online this lunchtime to chat with you, the fans, ahead of a huge day in the club's history.

On the agenda will be Malky's selections at West Ham, his summer signings, and the latest comments from chairman Vincent Tan

We are now live...

Blakey: I won't be at West Ham but I will be monitoring it very closely.

Tucker: I can't believe it. City last played in the top flight before I was born. It's all about looking forward and everyone looks very excited.

Tucker: The chair almost got the better of Gary Medel when he kicked it but he looks a quality player. But if you were to design a player to be a Cardiff City hero, he's the man. Exactly what Cardiff have been crying out for. He bullied Messi out of the game against Barca.

Blakey: If you watch La Liga you will know how good a player he is. I've seen him plenty of times and we have a very good signing. The rest of the team need to balance him.

Blakey: If I was playing against Medel I would wind him up. I'd pinch him or whatever and try to get under his skin. He is going to have to control his temper.
Tucker: Compared to the Boca River derby the South Wales derby will seem like a kickabout on the green.

Tucker: Maybe Peter Whittingham can get the protection and cover that will help him be more creative with Medel there

Blakey: I would play him at West Ham because he's a major signing. He plays in defensive midfield so he doesn't need to be so involved in set plays.

Blakey: I still think we are short. Last year everyone wanted to come to Cardiff now you have to convince people to come. I think we needed 9 players

Blakey: I have to ask why Spurs let Caulker go? He can come here and become and England centre half. He has Premier experience

Tucker: We all thought when Andreas Cornelius came, who is this guy? We were all reaching for Youtube.

Blakey: Now expectation on him is massive. We are asking a 20-year-old kid to get a minimum of 15 goals in the Premier League.

Tucker: For me the idea of starting Declan John is a massive gamble.

Blakey: As good a talent as he is, Big Sam will target him. We are handing the initiative to West Ham. Joe Cole running at him will be a problem. Declan is a left winger turning into a left back. He's not a natural defender. He's going to be looking to get forward a lot. It's a risk but that's the manager's job.

Tucker: I would feel more comfortable with McNaughton in the team. He has experience. Declan is an unnecessary gamble. Upton Park is not the place to learn.

Blakey: If Malky thinks Hudson should be dropped and Turner and Caulker has a better balance then it's up to him. I guarantee it's not personal. He is picking the team that gives him the best balance.

Tucker: From a journalist's point of view, Vincent Tan is the best person in the world to interview.

Tan is enjoying the role of talking about Cardiff City. You have to put yourself into his mindset as a businessman. He does not hear the word 'no' very often.

Blakey: If you let somebody deal with your club as if it's not a football club, that is what you get.
When Portsmouth were going bust 25,000 fans rallied around and bought the club. It's life and death to people.
It means far more to people than you could ever imagine.
Once you have opened the door of change, you can't close it further down the line.

Tucker: Imagine Tan had cleared the debts and handed money to charity but never turned red. He would be seen as one of the greatest owners

Blakey: Malky was under pressure last year. That's the nature of the job. That's what football is about. Now we have to set a club in stone in the Premier League. Bolton went down a couple of times when I was there but we always bounced back.

Tucker: I think Malky is ok. He was delighted when they went up. He feels pressure but he is enjoying it.
Vincent Tan is an eccentric figure who knows little about football. What happens if we get to November on a bad run?
I can't imagine any dressing room not being with Malky Mackay

Blakey: 3-1 Cardiff

West Ham is a difficult place for opposition fans to play and for West Ham fans to play. They can get on the backs of their own players.

Tucker: 1-1

I am feeling positive. We've won at West Ham and I think we'll give them a good go this time.
