Cardiff City has signed a live commentary deal with BBC Cymru Wales - a big part of the broadcaster’s plans to reflect the most exciting season of Welsh football ever.
On BBC Radio Wales, there will be FM coverage of every Premier League game in south east Wales, starting with West Ham v City this Saturday. BBC Radio Cymru will broadcast a comprehensive selection of Cardiff games in the south east and some selected matches across the whole of south Wales. Plus a number of games will be broadcast by both stations across Wales, including next week’s game against Manchester City and the first South Wales derby on November 3rd.
BBC Radio Wales has been granted permission by the Premier League to broadcast every Cardiff City game, home and away, on FM in south east Wales (an area which includes the capital plus approximately stretches west to Porthcawl and Maesteg, and north to Abergavenny). The station is also working to offer this coverage on its DAB transmitters too. The rights do not extend to broadcast outside this area unless that game is also on BBC Radio 5Live or 5Live Sports Extra. The rights restrictions do not apply for FA Cup and League Cup games. Meanwhile, Radio Cymru has been granted permission to broadcast Cardiff games across the whole of south Wales on FM. Again, these rights restriction apply only to Premier League games and do not apply if the game is being broadcast on 5Live or 5Live Sports Extra.
BBC Radio Wales Editor, Steve Austins, today wrote a blog detailing what fans of Cardiff City, Swansea City, Newport County and Wrexham could expect this season, including a new nightly edition of Radio Wales Sport and new post-match phone-in called Call Rob Phillips, which starts at 5.30 this Saturday. On Radio Cymru, football fans can keep up to date with Dylan Jones and the Ar y Marc team every Saturday morning at 8.30. Radio Cymru’s broadcast plans for matches can be viewed each week on the website
www.bbc.co.uk/radiocymru and clicking on the “Blog”.
