Since Cardiff won promotion to the Premier league there have been more references to Swansea City than The Bluebirds would care for. But they would be more than happy with a similar amount of success in their first campaign in The Premier League.
They certainly haven’t dawdled this summer and have been forthcoming with the cash in an attempt to consolidate their position in the top league. They have spent a fortune already on Steven Caulker (Tottenham, £8m), Andreas Cornelius (FC Copenhagen, £8.5m), John Brayford (Derby County, £1.5m), Gary Medel (Sevilla, £11m [reported]).
They already have what looks like an exciting line up for the season ahead. You certainly wouldn’t expect them to be whipping boys from the outset. Of course it will be a steep learning curve but there is real quality at Cardiff City now.
One player who may be added to the books before the start of the season is Dutch veteran Dirk Kuyt. He is getting on a bit, at 33 years of age, but has been doing well at Fenerbahce scoring eight times in 30 games for the club. He may not be everybody’s first choice, but he did a sterling job in the Liverpool squad and could well offer invaluable Premier League experience to Cardiff, in their debut season in the Premier league.
Cardiff City are favourites with bookmaker Skybet to sign Dirk Kuyt before the end of the window. With an ear constantly affixed to the ground, through their sports news channel, Skybet may well have some inside information on this one. At odds of 4/9 Kuyt may be turning out for Cardiff at the start of the season.
Let’s see him in action. Cardiff fans, would you welcome Kuyt to the club or is he surplus to requirements?
