Is time up for Velikonja?

Tue Aug 13, 2013 10:24 pm

Do you think Velikonja has any future here?

Malky was quoted saying that Velikonja was the future of Cardiff but at the age of 24/25 he is getting fairly old to make a break through.

I feel we should sell him, not for the sake of the club but for his sake. He cannot be happy here.
He should be loaned out at the very least.

He will be shipped out to Italy I think, been told he is not suited to the English Leagues.....

I really can't see him making it here now.

The little we saw of him I just feel was enough to make a judgement. Against Macclesfield he did little but the excuse of he had no service was his defence. At Hull it was very much the same for that half he played. However the second half should tell us why he won't make it. He was replaced by Campbell who very quickly got on the score sheet. This happened not because of the service Frazer received but the fact the replacement made it happen. Basically Campbell got himself in a position that provided the service, an excellent pass from Kim. In the first half Velkonja just didn't make himself available else if he did I'm sure Kim would have found him.

With any player there seems to be three options, play him, loan him out or sell/dispose of him on a free.

What is most surprising with Velikonja is that as Malky scarcely played him last season, often he was not even in the match day squad, that Malky did not loan him out.

If he knocks them in for the development team surely he can achieve something at a higher level. Why not send him on loan to Newport County until Christmas? He would be easy to keep an eye on. If he succeeds then lend him to a League 2 or Championship Club in January or play him for the City.

What I find hard to understand is that he doesn't seem to be part of Malky's plans yet he isn't loaned out.

Its not like he banged in dozens for the development side either though. Yes he gave us a decent
return but perhaps that is pretty much his level. Reserve team Championship Football is a million
miles away from The Premiership and I think its as close as he's ever going to get. Cant win em all.

I don't expect Malky to win them all. However, if a player does not seem up to first team action then surely it is better to send him out on loan? At the very least it pays part of the wages. If the player is unsuccessful on loan we have saved some money. If the player is successful on loan he may be ready for the first team or for selling on. To leave them in the development team just seems to be a waste of money.

Velikonja thread number 24066 ;)

Velikonja-waste of money-malky made a boo boo-every one gets the picture-time to move on.
