West ham sign downing

Just been announced

I'm guessing joe cole or matt jarvis will now be replaced by downing , not sure if that makes it harder for us or easier , to be fair I've never really rated downing that highly .

Rather face him than either of the other two

Jarvis a left winger, Cole more central and Downing a right winger.

Downing came into some good form toward the end of last season. With Taylor out for the game, he could be a handful for John or Lappin.

Declan John will have to withstand quite a bit then. Hope the winger in front of him helps track back to make his job easier

Downing can play both sides , depending on the way west ham play they could easily chop and change , we did it a few times last year with Bellamy and noone swapping sides quite often . A lot of managers like wingers to play on opposite sides so they can cut inside others keep them in the natural position to reach the bye line and get crosses in . Could go either way but with Morrison , maida and Nolan likely to be through the middle I can't see a place for cole apart from out wide tbh

I've heard Big Sam is to have a medical after signing Downing to see if he is insane

Downing was their best player against us in the Carling Cup final and constantly threatend us. So lets not write him off yet, if Declan John starts he's going to have a tough time
