Laudrup / Mackay and the South Wales derby...

Tue Aug 13, 2013 10:30 am

I wonder how our respective managers will view the derby matches? Mackay has played in the Old Firm match, Laudrup has played for both sides in the Real Madrid/Barca games...

I also note that both managers have mentioned the derby match in pre-season, but really, I wonder if it registers with them both how big it is to both sets of fans, or if they will have to actually experience the match to understand? Interestingly, Paulo Sousa was interviewed in 4-4-2 magazine and had the South Wales derby in his list of his 6 most important matches in his career!

Just a topic for discussion...

I'm sure they know importance to fans, but experiencing it is another matter?

I just wonder if the fact that they have both played in matches regarded as some of the biggest in the world, they might underestimate the feeling that this game generates, as you say, until they experience it.

As much as i love Laudrup,he doesn't strike me as the type to get too over emotional over a south wales derby.I think the likes of Leon,Ash and Garry Monk will have to drum it into the players the importance of the games.Alan Curtis too.

Malkey has already said how big a derby it is and knows how much it means to the fans.

I don't think we'll be seeing him doing a Brendan and running up the touchline, high fiving the west stand :laughing6:

Someone probably pointed out the reaction from you lot when Dave Jones said it was "Just another game!" :laughing6:

Malky will certainly know what it's all about, Laudrup will know from his brother what a British derby is all about too.

MM will view this fixture as more than just "another game".

Maybe malky has more of a feel for it due to the passion he's seen from our fans, and being a British coach he's bit more in tune with things here, ml has experienced derbies abroad so he should know importance to fans of this game.

Malky got sent off for fouling Laudrup's brother. TWICE in a derby

Both will be up for it
