Malky's choice?

Mon Aug 12, 2013 8:22 pm

Is it just me or does Gary Medel not seem like a Malky type player to you. Malky dropped Noone last year for a while after he got sent off so how will he cope with Medel's ability to accumulate red cards.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have him here but quite worried about playing games out with 10 men.

Being a tenacious fucker he will get into trouble with the ref now and again but stop worrying ffs, keano and vieira were aggressive no nonsense players and were often in trouble with the ref getting sent off from time to time, but these players were the best of their era and class acts. Chill out this is football a contact sport we don't want a fairy on the pitch pussying out of challenges and not giving their all do we...

People are taking this red card thing over the top. La Liga are known for not being physical.

Malky type player? Well it applies for off the field issues aswell as on field.

This guy is a physical CDM and someone who works hard and gives his all.

I agree, but I believe MM will have a convo with him about his previous red cards and that will be it.
Malky knows what he's doing

One of the greatest disciplinarians of them all was alex Ferguson.. Took know shit, and would only recruit players who absolutely fitted into what he wanted, yet even he made a few exceptions ala eric cantana, roy keane... Maybe malky has seen something in medel, that's worth going against his recruitment policy and making an exception for

I'm not against having him, I'll be happy to see someone putting it about for us, I was just saying he doesn't seem to fit in with Malky's usual choices.

I'm sure he will save us more points than he will cost us anmd agree that he may get a bit more leeway in the Prem and less divers to get him in trouble.

In tight games if we are 1 up it would be great to have Medel and Gunnars then bring on Cowie to close the game down - sorted

Spot on Alex.

He'll get 2-3 max this season in the Premier League. Granted, there is play acting and diving in the Premier League but its nothing compared to what goes on in La Liga.

Theres a quote from Malky that I read earlier, cant find it now. He says that he has known about Medel for a while and his recruitment team have kept a close eye on him. So yes, he is.

I think MM knows you need different types of players at this level.
He clearly wanted a top class defensive midfielder as a priority and he has one.
I think MM knows we lacked a bit of bite and he is ideal.
