HULL CITY TIGER REBRAND

Sun Aug 11, 2013 1:07 pm

Quite a few on here have come out saying how sad this is, that they will now be known as the Hull City Tigers, yet often refer to our club as Cardiff City Bluebirds, make your minds up, is it a good thing or a bad thing. :?

Rather be called Cardiff City Bluebirds and still play in blue.

Our rebrand is far worse than theirs

I prefer ours, ours is like we've got a horrible table cloth over our table, the tables still nice you just can't see it at the mo.

Hull Tigers is like a kids team.

But I can understand the other view.

This isnt a rebrand... but it is yet ANOTHER step towards our sport becoming like American Football.

Whats next!? End of season drafts!?
AFC taken away from club names!?

Manchester United are massive, and very commercial.

But they have kept their colour, badge, name ect. and are (in my humble opinion) the biggest team in the world

Surely someone like them can step into the politics of football and make a statement that people will listen too

Stop ruining our game?!

I suppose its just how far these foreign owners will go or test their chances.

As an ex pat for many years I was quite proud of our history, colour, culture and nationality. Being the only team to take the FA cup out of England was something that brought a smile to my face. The stories of us wrecking other football grounds not so much to smile about but that was us and our problem to sort out which we have done. The good the bad its all us. Its what we are and its how others see us. I do fear the way it is all going what we are will be no more but a show piece for some other part of the world.

The Americanisation of our game is only going to continue. Money corrupts everything from governments to sports to banking systems to families.

So what are you expecting of this Americanisation?

In short, more clubs to follow suit and do what we've done. It will obviously take time but it will happen. When the next big deal comes in then changes will be demanded to be made and the customer will pay more for more, in their eyes. Look at how much the Superbowl costs and then how much you get, i.e. a concert at half time. It'll all be phased in slowly though one club by one, one Sky deal by one and so forth.

Clubs like Liverpool will mostly be able to hang on to what they have as they've become established forces known worldwide and have a recognisable brand image that is a culture of its own. Those below the 6-7 well known clubs all face risk of getting rebranded and most of their fans know it.

Other fans of other clubs can try and cling on to their heritage all they want but the days of the working class game are gone as it has now progressed into a middle/upper class ruled sport. Hard to admit but we have to admit it because its happening.

The only ones who can stop it are the Premier League but they won't because money talks.

My immediate thought is there is a lot of parnoia there JB.

There is absolutely no need for a rebrand to gain worldwide recognition. Success will get you that. The only time a rebrand is required is when a product has been such a failure it needs a new coat to get rid of its past. Anyone thinking Cardiff City needs a new coat is showing disrespect.

The whole point of our rebrand is to have a Far Eastern representation in the best league in the world. This is the danger within that a lot are not seeing. Out in the Far East its Man U of England, what do you think we will be known as?

It will happen because money dictates the sport and not the other way around. Im not saying its right, im not saying its wrong, im just saying it will happen. You can say im paranoid but unless the MLS or another league becomes the money league of football then it will continue to spoil and corrupt the game in this country at the highest level as more top level businessmen try and jump on the ladder whether its for profit or self gratification.

The top teams are untouchable and brands are already established so its easy to see why businessmen will stick with them when their fan bases in Asia and Stateside are already massive.

Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Man City are probably untouchable but from thereon I'd say any club is pretty much untouchable. They're like the red brick universities known worldwide for what they offer and the rest are like the polytechnics that make up the numbers.

Also, you see a club like us and this adds pressure on those we take the positions of. You only have to look at the Leeds forums now to see the level of desperation to try and get back amongst the big boys and some are willing to accept a Red Bull rebrand to have it done. I was shocked to see it but its because as we get rebranded and other clubs and take money from owners doing it they move further back. So they need their own rich owner to come in and money roll them and that often comes with clauses.

You see, Tan and owners like this take over clubs who are vulnerable. We were on our last knees, we needed him, he saved us. He gave us a one sided ultimatum, we needed him so we had to take the rebrand. He took advantage of our situation and now he's doing good but we know of course as intellectual people there are underlying motives for his actions and that hes not doing it out of the kindness of his heart.

You know when fans of a well known club and historical club like Leeds United are willing to accept a rebrand to get success and get back amongst the elite that football in this country is just not right and its not but it is what it is.

Boxing ain't right either but us boxing fans still watch it even though money is everything in that sport now and the top boxers are happy to even flaunt it and say they're in it solely for the money, hence Floyd Money Mayweather. We know boxing is being damaged in some ways by the promoters stopping fights due to contractual and money issues so the best fights dont go ahead but we still watch it and football is the same for a lot of people.

I don't think I'd watch cardiff again if the name was changed, it would feel like a new club.

If I was asked if I would take the name 'Cardiff City Bluebirds' and be in blue again or be 'Cardiff City' and be in red, I'd take the first option. Hull City's rebrand is no where near as bad as ours in my opinion.
